VSTs on different tracks?

Excuse my newness to this topic. I'm messing around with Massive on my MPC Ren. Got it so that I can flip through the Massive presents and play them on the pads. Yay for me.

So I make a little 2 bar pattern on track 1…Now I want to add to my sequence on track 2 with a DIFFERENT sound from Massive. Problem is, I change the Massive preset and now my sound on track 1 changes to whatever preset is now selected in Massive. Ooops...

What I am missing here? How can I set it so that it saves my preset on track 1, then I can move on and add more sounds to new tracks? I KNOW we don't have to keep whatever sound from Massive is selected as the sound for all of our plugin tracks in a sequence…right??!!!

Open a new instance of massive plugin on track 2

Automate program changes.
Under the browser tab, make a list of the presets you want use, then automate changes.
Bare in mind, that if you've edited an existing patch you need to save it for re-using.

Not sure you can really do Program Change in the mpc software, but that's how Massive works, under Logic ie.

kaydigi- I tried that. Every Massive track in the MPC software changes when I make a change in Massive, no matter what track it's on.

jsf- Not to be a buster, but why even give me an answer if you say you don't know if it works that way in the MPC software?

Can anyone give me a clear explanation?

I can't test it to see if its working hence the note "dont know if it works".
I never did it in the mpc software, again, that's how's done with massive in Logic.

Try hitting record and change the program numbers like this guy's doing with reaktor.
Standard procedure really.

Thanks but I can't figure it out because that demo is being done on a MIDI track. I'm using Massive as a plugin track. Is it possible to somehow use Massive as a MIDI track? If so I can't figure out how.

I just tried it and you are missing a step.

Go to track 2.
Where it says Program "Massive 001", switch it to none.
Plugin ------> Massive
Select new preset.
This creates a new massive instance, you were still referring to the old one.

If you select Program Massive 001 on any new track you are affecting any track that uses that program. That's one of the gripes you hear from previous non mpc users about program handling.

This is how I believe it's being done in that video:
You got to have both applications running at the same time, in the video Reaktor isn't running in the MPC software

assuming you're on mac os, go to Utilities folder, open Audio Midi Setup
go to Window, and select Show Midi Window
double click IAC Driver
tick Device is Online and hit Apply
Quit Audio Midi Setup

open MPC software
go to Midi Preferences, tick IAC Driver Bus and click OK

open Massive
go to Midi preferences, tick IAC Driver and click OK
Under Browser assemble a list of presets you want use

In the mpc software, under track select midi and make sure IAC Driver is selected under PORT.
now any changes you make in PROG CH will change between presets in Massive.

I have just tried it and works.
But now we're facing another problem, we'll have to route Massive's audio output somewhere in order to record it.
This method really isn't that practical, You'd probably be better doing things like kaydigi said, I really just wanted to tie the loose end.

You just need to create a new program on the second track, for the second instance of Massive.

Press the + button next to PROGRAM Massive 001.

That will create a new/different/empty plugin program, then choose Massive as the plugin for the new program, which will create a separate instance of Massive to the first.

Though I admit the mistake was mine in the first place for forwarding him to an hypothesis that wouldn't be the solution to his problem... actually, thinking about it, it is a method that could realistically be fitted in a workflow, it's just that there's a more practical way of doing it.

It is not what he wants to do, but whatever, carry on with things that are unrelated to his original question, and are just confusing him, if you have to.


All he needs to do is create a new program on the second plugin track, and load Massive onto it.
