its good how the timing means that i can wake up on a Saturday and listen to the entries for this week with a coffee.... here is my 2c for the vote.
I have to listen a couple of times to, as its a hard one to judge. I'm keeping the rules in mind, and I do not think anyone started on the snare so listening again.
like first up Kapp, fades in so I can not tell. And sorry Kapp, its still triphop, not EDM really at that tempo and beat.
Borat starts with a snare, but not on the snare so to speak. And made instruments with the sample from what I can hear? sounds like it. The vocal sample just pisses me of though sorry. I like what you did, but I dont like it though, so trying to judge on flip than anything else.
Kzee sounded good to me but did sound a little low key, chill and is walking a fine line between EDM and trip hop.
Sick the drumgod is so slooooooooowwwwww. It is so slow I can't get into it. IT ok to but needs some speeding up, cos it sounds like turn table is broken to me.
Catsoupone shines here, with good break beat and good chops that progress so I like this one. Sounds good to nice thump to the kick and all but I do not think you started on the snare.
r4ar gets into it. Goes through break to 4 to the floor and uses sample as instrument by the sounds of it.

so for me its between catsoupone and midi? so hard to decide, but its gonna be midi?

I voted Midi for the first part of his track. Would have preferred to just hear the first part evolve into more of an arrangement on it's own.

Bliprock nearly got my vote.
Some sounds could use a heavy kick up the arse by being overdriven and eq'd a bit through some hardware, then maybe go crazy with the compressors with some parallel compression, inserts and 2-bus just to give the track the fatness and punch it deserves.
Overall liked the tuneage of it. With a wilder, heavier production it'd have come into it's own.

Hungryman has a nice sounding production but the pitch/tuning put me off. I'm all for de-tuned, discordant sounds but I wasn't feeling your slow lfo pitch modulation (or was it set to slight random pitch modulation) this time.


Oh and for the "start on a snare" rule, for my track, I could have just chopped off the first kick or added a snare to it but I really couldn't understand the point of doing so. I think my drum programming makes up for that anyway.
Besides, when did Obi ever follow the rules

i used no DAW and in my hardware set up I did pretty much that. I have hardware compression set up and fed back into the desk for parallel compression by one AUX and FX does the other AUX and I have a group send that feeds another compressors sidechain inserted on the master mix . You don't notice till its not there if you know what I mean. Pretty ironic when I did all that and you tell me to do just what I did. I use my outs in mono now from MPC so pretty much every thing has its own EQ on each sound and comp/fx sends to. Probably cos its not mastered that it seems a little light but loud its got some dynamics and I think I got it pretty right freq balance wise that way. Maybe if I just run it through a typical mastering chain it will get that oomph maybe.

I went with midi, mostly for the first part too. KappNeffect's beat was also real nice , but it sounds like boom bap to me!

This round was kinda "meh.." I guess I wasn't really feeling it.

Yeah, I didn't know how to interpret the start-on-the-snare rule either.

Yeah, it was definitely out of tune. I'm not sure what I did. Haha! I was screwing around with some (probably too many) plugins I've never used before.

Here I'll give a full run down since it's a small turn out:

Kapp- Ill tune. Dig the sound. Like the other guys said though, more a hip hop beat and less electronic dance shit.

Borat- Solid tune. Would have liked to hear more of that synth lead at the end. The whole progression of the song seems a little slow for me, nevertheless good stuff.

Kzee- Really creative tune. Top contender.

Sick- Clean sound. A little slow for a dance track. Would have liked to hear more outside elements with it.

Catsoupone- It keeps me interested, just needs some more low end on the mix.

r4ar- Really dig the mix. You can hear all those machines screaming. Some of the transitions confuse me, but it has that classic old school house swing that keeps it going.

BlipRock- Definitely kept me tuned in the most. Feels like that kick needs a little something.

midi- Good start to this one. I would have stuck with the beginning part also. The dead stops kinda lose all the energy for me.

I don't know who to vote for lol... I mean I do like electronic music....but I didn't this that much. Blip's shit seems the coolest though..

Ha ha !! I only break the time limit rule , the snare thing I felt got over looked, the feel and groove from starting a beat on the snare when the tempo is fairly fast can make for a really funky groove, then to swing back into regular 1's and 2's if done right can be sublime, it's an age old recipe from drum n bass.

Sorry dude thought you were, my mistake, dunno how I came to that, some people do use different names, and modding can get a little confusing when doing 2 sites your right Midi is polite your def not him, so get off your high horse defensiveness of swearing and name calling and just say, "it's not me", try to grow up a little dude, otherwise your'll have some nutter that will track down your house via your IP address, buy the first return flight over and hand your own bottom to you via your mouth. Pretty safe behind that keyboard, not if I get a ticket though !!!
