Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

I would like to hook up a usb keyboard to my 4000plus. Is there a special type of keyboard I need outside of just having the usb link? Will my G4 mac usb keyboard work and will the mouse work?

I haven't used the aksys software yet but I plan to install it and get into it. Is it true that you can drag and drop samples in to this software? Can you also edit the samples?

Any suggestions?

Hi!

Just about any USB keyboard should do, I believe. Check the archives for listings over which functions are available via an external keyboard (I know I posted one such listing here some time). Mouse will not work (as far as I know) but you might not miss it that much with all the keyboard shortcuts...

Ak.Sys has some pretty neat drag and drop functions, I use it all the time for transfering samples/programs/sequences/projects from MPC to PC (and vice versa). There is however no functionality for sample editing, but you can have Ak.Sys open the sample in your sample-editor of choice (I use Sound Forge, the Mac equivalent would be....?). I do miss the FX editor from Ak.Sys S5000/6000 though. Apart from that, Ak.Sys is great! :)

Good luck!
