Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hello - I'm new to the forum and also new to building sequences on the 2000xl so I apologize if this topic has been brought up before.

I've used the 2000xl for a few years mainly for sampling and making one-off beats by using the pad mute function. I'd like to get into sequencing and building songs, but I keep running into the same problem:

When I set up more than one sequence and then try to build a song using the step sequencer, the first step in the sequence will play, and then the sound cuts out. I've faced a similar problem when using the "next sequence" function, in that the original sequence will seem to disappear. I've tried using different tracks on different sequences, but I still ran into the same problem.

Is there a sequencing step that I'm missing? Should I be saving my programs/sequences/to disk before playing them? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

In detail run through your whole process when this happen, every button you press and everything you actually push, every feature, every function you access, in order.

Thanks - think I figured it out. After I get all my pads assigned and I set up my sequences, I do the following steps:

1. Save all programs and sounds
2. Save all sequences and songs

Then when I go into song mode or do "next sequence", nothing gets lost. I guess that I wasn't aware of this step, or I wasn't aware of the fact that you have to save sequencing/program info to disk before playing in song mode.

Good that you understand saving, that has nothing to do with NEXT SEQUENCE though. There's something else, a missing peice(s) of this puzzle.

This is pretty weird but it also happens to me from time-to-time on my MPC 1000. It seems to only happen to CERTAIN PROJECTS and there is no rhyme or reason, either. I've noticed that if I load the project folder w/ samples and then go back through and MANUALLY load the samples (from the same project file, replace but do not reassign to a different pad) then everything works as it should. I usually have to save the same beat/project/jam to a new folder all together and it works from there, generally speaking.

This only happens to one-two projects out of the current 30 on my memory card but everything you described was happening on my end. This is what I do and it tends to work most of the time.
