I just got an MPC-2000XL a week ago and I have already come across my first problem and first technical question, which I'm hoping the minds here can shed some light on:
Problem

I have a 2 bar break that has two snares--the first hits loud, the second hits soft--and since when it's looped it sounds a little funny I decided to slice up the break into 6 zones (the last zone being the wimpy snare), assign each sound to a pad and reconstruct the break using the hard snare twice--once where it naturally is played, the other in place of the soft snare. Now to my problem: I want to create a new loop of the drum beat played with only the hard snare but I don't know how I'd go about doing it. Anybody have any ideas?

I'm sure we've all come across that dope (let's say, guitar) loop that would fit great into a beat except that in addition the guitar, there's the rest of the band playing too loudly to out-and-out sample the phrase. Naturally, you would want to isolate the guitar and muffle/dampen out the rest of the backing band, right? My question then is, is this isolating of a particular instrument possible with the MPC-2000XL? I'm thinking that in order to accomplish what I'm trying to describe, you would need to use a filter. I know that you can take a sample with a dope bassline and bottom out the filter so that all that's left is the bassline, but can the reverse be done? If so, can it be done by the MPC-2000XL itself or do you need the EB16 processor? Pete Rock, Shadow and People Under the Stairs always use this technique and I've noticed that when they do this, the almost always isolate higher-pitched sounds and the bass & drums (if present) become almost non-existent.
