Ok so I was making my first beat on my new (new to me, got it for $40!!) mpc500. Sitting there for a few hours and had a really good beat going.

Kept thinking I will save in a minute etc.. Started sampling while the beat was playing and the song just stopped playing back and the Mpc froze. Couldn't do anything and after leaving for 5 mins I powered it off and my song was lost..

Is this normal when maxing out the ram? I'm pretty sure that's what I did..

I've never had this happen, but I've never maxed out the ram while sampling, only when copying the sample to other pads, and when i do it says memory full or something to that nature, i don't remember my 500 ever freezing on me, i must be lucky.

My 500 froze many years ago but thats when it was on OS1.13. Another time was when I was breaking in the pads I managed to knock out the RAM from the battery compartment from the pad smashing. So check your OS if its updated to 1.31 and check if your RAM is tightly snugged in.

I don't think it was an overload of samples, I just produced an album on it with 2GB of material and never had an issue. On top of that I had old beats still on it.
