mpcstuff.com, worth the price?

2KXL user from back in the day, sold mine in 2010 during some desperate times.

I've known for a while that I'll eventually want to pick up another old-Akai unit... and recently decided when I do it will be a 4000 (over a 3000 or another 2000XL).

Purchase will be a ways off, I still have to spend a lot of time with my Maschine and my new SP404-SX first. When I do cop though, I want the assurance that my machine is clean and well maintained. mpcstuff.com seems reputable and I like the look of this blackout custom job http://www.mpcstuff.com/u-mpc4000-blk.html. All black everything next to my ASR-10 will look so ill.

I keep hearing of cats getting lucky with clean 4000's for much less $$ though.

Thoughts?

A good price is going to depend on shipping, and the options that 4000 has. If that 4000 is loaded it might be worth it for you. Getting those parts and painting it isnt cheap.

I got this last one for cheaper, but the market at the time was low.

....keep in mind, you even get a warranty again...
sure you'll find cheaper units out there....
bit if you want them to look like this, there's lot's of stuff you need to buy and assemble...

i bought one of the last new mpc1000's in a shop last year for about 500 euros....
wanted an all black machine, too....
so i spended another 500 euros for the screen, the knobs, the pads, the wooden side panels etc and the guy who did this for me....

got me a 2500 a few weeks ago for 600 euros....
made my all black whishlist and there we go again....250 dollars for new knobs, new pads, new screen...etc...

a 4000 you only buy once in a life time...and it's a beauty....that price seems ok to me....

The all-black is not that important to me, I just like it.

If I got a standard 4000 I wouldn't bother making it black. The fat pads seem really nice.

The things that really matter to me though are the 8-outs, and knowing the machine is in good repair.

I see 4000's pop up for 500-600 once in awhile these days. Just gotta know how to look

Considering it comes with a warranty, a 8-out board installed, and all other accessories that you would need, I think that the priced is appropriate.
And custom casing would cost a few hundred bucks easily.

Having said that, you might be able to find a MPC-4000 with similar configuration on ebay or Craig's List, but it is more risky purchase.

For something this important I don't mind saving up and paying a little more for peace of mind, I just don't want to get taxed for nothing.
