MIDI multi timbre help JJOS3 - Microkorg - Daw

I hope some of you can help me. Last few days I wanted to try sequencing my mpc and microkorg in a daw (Reaper) using multi timbre. Normally (mpc standalone sequencer, multi timbre: off) my midicontroller (Microkorg) would play the program on the active track (as track). But now that I've got multi timbre on, the microkorg wil only play the mpc program that is on the midi channel the microkorg sends out.

To get thing clear I'ĺl list what I have an what function it does.

- Microkorg (keys are midi controller, the synth is a soundsource)
- MPC (pads and q-knobs are midicontroller, the programs are soundsource)
- DAW, Reaper (sequencer)
- Audiointerface is a Presonus VSL22 with 1 midi in and 1 midi out.

Now, I've got it all connected like this:

DAW midi out -> Microkorg midi in -> Tru -> MPC midi in 1 (Multi-timbre: on) 16 tracks to use for sequencing.
Microkorg -> MPC midi in 2 (microkorg only sends out 1 midi channel at a time)
MPC midi output A -> DAW midi in
MPC midi output B -> Microkorg in

Midi settings:
Multi timbre: On
Offset: 0
Soft thru: as track
Seq /prog change: off

With these settings I have to switch the midichannel output of my microkorg every time I want to play another mpc track (program). I would like it to be that just 1 channel plays the active track, just like as track when not in multi timbre mode.

Who can help me with this?

yep cos that is how Multitimbral works. I in fact have very similar set up with DAW, microkorg and MPC and can do the same and expect this behaviour as this how its meant to work, so you need to rethink your set up.
What you need to do is set your microkorg to go into DAW as midi channel and then send to MPC as a soft thru to the track that is mapped to the midi channel you need. Make sense?
this way you keep the multitimbral set up to sequence MPC and also get around your active track midi channel change problem you have with the microkorg because the DAW takes and reassigns midi channel out for you. So set up 16 tracks that have a midi channel each and then pass through to the channel that you want by making that the only active one to the microkorg. I have not used reaper for a while so can not tell you how from memory but you can do it with all DAWs. just a matter of arming that track for midi record and then unarm that when you change to another midi track in DAW so you do not send more than one midi channel at a time as you can do that to.

Or you can send PC messages and change program of active track but I guess you dont want that.

Hi Bliprock, thanks for your reply. Cool that we both have the same setup.

Your way works, but I only have 1 midi input in my interface, so that would mean I cant use the mpc pads as a midi controller.

But I desided I'm not going to use a daw for sequencing. I want to keep thinks as simple as possible. So, I'll use JJOS2xl and find my way around that. The midi grid edit is workable enough for me.

Daw is only for tracking out now. And for sample library, quick to find what Im looking for, sample goes trough mixer, eq, and record in sampler.

I find it hard not to over-complicate things I guess. I should stick to a simple setup and leave it at that.

cool. You should try keep that set up but ignore till say tracking as it helps to have the tempos locked when you track in more than one pass to make the DAW line up your takes. That is kinda the best reason in that kind set up but as I mix down live to stereo I don't mulitrack much at all.
Also with the set up I described you could easily pass midi out from MPC to the microkorg then to DAW then back to MPC. This will allow pads to pass through I think. Might be worth a go and give you what you want. There is a few ways to do it. But the idea you have to keep it simple is good to though and does help and less mucking around. Just a heads up to try that routing but its a bit of a loop and that sometimes can cause issues.
