New user, need some help to decide if I should buy an upgrad

I registered here today so I'm sorry in case I chose the wrong section to ask this question.

I saw an insertion about an MPC2000XL that has been heavily upgraded, the specs are:
-Card reader to transfer .wav or snd from pc
-Effect card
-Expanded memory
-8 output board
-Smpte board

The price is around 1000$ (being 700€ here in Italy), other insertions with mpcs being not upgraded (or different upgrades) are around 590-600€, so it would be around 800-820$.
I would like to know if those 150-200 dollars make a difference, I know the card reader and the expanded memory would come in handy, but I don't really know about the other stuff. I have been saving up money for a long time so it wouldn't be that much of a difference if it's worth it, but they still are almost 200$. I also never had an mpc before, only been making music (mostly hip-hop) on a cracked version of FL Studio and a bunch of free VSTs, now I'm really into it and want to spend on something that I'll keep for a lifetime, without needing to "upgrade" to other mpcs.
The conditions of said MPC2000XL are also really good, the seller is not far from where I live and is open to video demonstrations, or photos of the mpc he's selling (if asked).

Holy sh*t... that thing is in sexy condition. Sorry that I cannot comment on the price myself (1K user) but, just wanted to say if you buy that machine... treat her with respect (or the right type of disrespect)!

Regardless of the upgrades and condition, 700 EUR is fairly expensive for an MPC2000XL - you'd be able to get an MPC4000 for that kind of money. Before even thinking about it, I'd want to see what condition the screen is in - does it have any lines on it?

I had the 2000XL then, after a short while years on MPD+software, bought a 2500, which I think is a much better machine overall, especially JJOSSed.

And, yes, 700 seems very steep. I'd expect to pay £300 (about 350 euros?) tops for one here in the UK, although I know the UK used market tends to be bigger than some parts of Europe.

The fact is that this kind of market here is very restricted, and everyone speculate on it (An MPC4000 goes from 1100 to 1500 Euros ), although I may buy a 2000xl from outside of Italy on ebay or such sites for much less, but I felt like buying one from someone I could see in person so I could pick the actual thing up from said seller without occurring to shipping (Which is total bollocks here, my fear is that it would come broken ). Also the screen on the mpc that I was talking about in the original post is in very good condition, no bugs (like the lines that appear after the mpc starts up).

By the way, I found another insertion on ebay of another 2000xl, this comes from germany and has a zip drive installed, comes with 3 100mb disks and a usb converter, but I don't know if it's compatible with windows 7, and I heard that those drives are known for dying very soon. This one goes for 390€ and there are 20 hours left, but still no bids, so the price is most likely to stay the same.

Doesn't sound too bad in relation to the UK market if you know its in good condition.
But it' vitally important the screen is good & all the switches work.

I'd expect to pay about £250 for a 2000xl
And for that I'd want it to have the 8 outs board installed.
Maybe £300 with a flash card reader & 8 outs.
The EB16 Effects Board cost around £100 separately.
So that's around £400 - 492.55 Euro
The extra ram is pretty cheep £15
That's on ebay if you take your time and get a bargain

I wouldn't bother looking at any ebay listings that don't show a picture of it powered up with a close up picture of the screen.
It's worth baring in mind the screens have a limited life span and cost about as much as the unit itself to replace.


If you have enough money you might be better off buying a mpc400, like that guy said, although I don't know anything about mpc400's , I have a mpc 2000
Just in terms of it the screens being cheaper to replace £60 and it not being such a old machine.

I love mpc2000's they're dope but they stopped making them in 1999 so there's always the knowledge that it's at least fifteen years old.
They are very well built.
My one works perfectly & looks virtually brand new.

I say, if you have the money, your sure it's in good condition and you want it, f**k it buy it.

All MPCs have become an enthusiasts machine, in the sense that the evolution of the feature set has grown at a snail's pace compared to software DAWs. While the 2K/XL are classics in the minds of people who came up on them, that's not reflected in the used prices.

£700 or anything like it is far too much to pay for one in 2014, irrespective of where you live.

I believe they said 700 Euro which is 568 British Pound.
If that's with a flash drive, 8 outs and a effects card it's a bit pricy but not terrible.
