'Sup fellas, got a quick question. Does anyone know how to perform a midi dump with this module? My JV1010 always freezes, and while i was searching this site, i found that midi dump would clarify this all up for me. As midi dump records where all my patches are coming from and all.

Another question is does anyone know of any good sites with JV1010 support or manuals. So far the best i've found is: http://www.synthman.com/roland/support/supplementalnotes/index.html but it really doesn't deal with my particular model.

What i'm basically trying to do is learn my way around the machine [especially the edit mode], so any links, tips, or watever would be very helpful. Thanks again yall....

i was also having this problem when i first got my Trinity rack and i was reading the "harmony central" user reviews and i just emailed a bunch of people that wrote reviews and asked them how to do a midi dump into the MPC. here is an email explaining how to do a midi dump useing the trinity rack....i dont know how much this will help you with the roland, but i think the basic concept will pretty much be the same, and it might lead you in the right direction to figure out how to do it on the 1010.....

(TR stands for trinity)
"I felt your pain at one time. Then I figured out how to do midi dumps and it all became much simpler. Every time you make a beat you're going to have to save your multitimbral setting in the TR. Make sure you have your midi out on the TR going to one of the midi in's on the mpc (mine is going into B, because the TR and my other modules are on the B port). Make a new sequence in the mpc, call it multi. Then on the first track set the midi channel to whatever you set the TR's base channel as (mine is on channel 8). Then go into your master settings in the TR and scroll until you get to "Data Dump." Scroll down and select multi. Then press record on your mpc, while the mpc is recording, press OK on your TR. You should hear a stoppage in the recording. That means the dump was completed. Press play on your mpc and the midi settings with get dumped right back into the TR. Repeat this process with every beat you make. All the changes you make to programs in the TR can be dumped into the mpc as well. And when you wanna load them back in, you just dump them back. It's really useful once you figure it out. Hope this helps. "

hope you find that a little useful....i've never used the 1010, but i assume its similar....also, after you dump the data into the mpc and you wanna reload that into the 1010....first you have to go into the rack settings and tell the rack to "receive midi data" then press play on the MPC - to dump the data.

how you like the 1010? you like the sounds in it?

There is something the MPC manual doesnt clarify, do you have to use one blank track per midi instrument for dumping?

And Roland sucks for not having a manual archive on their site.

Yo good lookin DeckMusicJD$, it looks helpful, but i dont even know how to even get to that screen as the manual doen't really explain. Also wat do u mean by "base" channel. I know how to get to the "data transfer" screen, but have no ideas what the symbols mean when they appear. If any1 can help i'd appreciate.

Word DOVESKI, Roland does stink for doin that.

i'm not sure if the 1010 is set up the same as the korg, but the base channel is just one of the 16 midi tracks. if you have ever used a korg there is a "combi", "prog" and "multi/seq" mode that you can use to access all the sounds. when you are in the combi and prog mode you are just transmitting midi data on 1 of the 16 channels. Whereas when you are in a multi/seq mode you have 16 channels of data to choose from. And when you are dumping all the data from the rack into the MPC you have to make sure that the MPC is set to the same midi channel that the rack is set too. So i will go into the global config of the rack and set "midi channel" to 1....then in the MPC i will set the track to "MIDI - channel 1A"....If i would have the midi channel in the rack set to one, and the track in the MPC set to 2A no data would get transfered because the channels would not be in sync.

I also broke out the 2000xl manual this afternoon and read about the midi dump in there....Instead of making a sequence called Multi you can also go into "shift 9" and dump the data into the MIDI dump screen . you basically do the same thing....I've used both methods with my TR but i tend to save the data in a sequence because its easier for me to organize all my songs/seq's that way....I will usually have 3-4 songs loaded at one time (and each song has 15-20 different seqences), so i will just make my "multi"/sound module settings the first sequence of the in each group of songs (i do it that way for organizational purposes).....its around page 180 in the manual....all you basically need to find out is were the midi dump function is in the 1010 then you should be good to go.

How you like the 1010 sound wise? I've been wanting to get a roland module but i have never used any of them before.

Yo thanks alot man for helpin me out, im bout to go try and figure it out right now.

So i will go into the global config of the rack and set "midi channel" to 1....

Thats another thing i have yet to figure out how to do on the rack.
I've done beats on the rack, usin a midi controller, sequencing on my MPC and still have yet to touch any midi setiings on the rack [luck i guess??]

As far as sounds goes, there's a plenty! I wish then had more percussion/drums/ that would've been nice. But there's soooooo much its unbelievable. Right now i'm feelin a certian patch so i'm just workin with dat, but i've tried the others are there dope too. I got mines for less than $200, so im VERY PLEASED with the purchase. The only problem is learning my way around the machine.

Thanks for tha help man...im gonnna go try it out now and make some posts within the next hour or two.

Thanx again DeckMusicJD$, im gonna run through the steps i did in case there are others out there that have the jv1010 and wanna know how to do this:
-Make a new sequence (i call it Special)
-Make sure MPC & rack are in "handshake" mode!!!!
-Highlight track 1 [trick may work with any track but im stickin with 1] and select the base channel you working with. Set the rack to this channel as well. For example [PART knob set=1, MPC=MIDI 1A]

1-While holding the value & Volume knobs [this selects the EDIT parameter], go to where it says "Data Transfer".
2-Push the Value knob once [on JV1010]
3-Hold Record and PLAY on the MPC [just as you would if you were recording a beat on the MPC].
4-Push the Value knob again [on JV1010]
5-You will then see the lights flicker up and down on the rack, when the lights stop flickering your done. you can hit stop on the mpc.
6-Simply lock off the unit, then turn it back on, hit play on that Special sequence, and your Patches/presets are there!!

The next big thing now is to find out how to select channels on the JV1010 Is it just the part knob, that's whats been doing me well so far, but im not sure.

Either way thanx to all those who helped!!
