yeah... that gets real nasty real quick hahahaha... I tend to use the medium sampling mode (not the lowest lo-fi setting) and the vinyl compressor... but just using the mpc output into the 303 and putting that vinyl compressor on the ext source and cranking up the mpc main out volume works great too for live drumming.

Wordup!!!!! Yeah I use the medium setting too....the lowest lo-fi setting is too much for me. Drums, guitar, piano....anything with a lot of mid range harmonics sound realllll nice on the medium lo-fi to me!!! I like to use vinyl sim going in since it takes off some top end, then resample with lo-fi to add some mid range distortion

ITB my not-so-secret weapon is Guitar Rig and has been since it first came out. I always reach for it when I want to take a sound in a completely different direction, and often layer up 4 or more instances of it with other plugins before and after it in the chain. I bought a Pod HD500 to use in the same way but haven't gelled with it unfortunately.

In 'DAW world' I'll push certain sounds to the extreme by timestretching them 750% (or whatever) and trimming out the interesting parts and feeding them through other processors. The things you can do in a DAW go over and above everything else really.

OTB I use a reel to reel, cassette recorder, SP-12, OTO Biscuit, OP-1, analogue filters… It's endless the sort of stuff you can do with just a few bits of kit.

yeah and one thing nice about that compressor besides the added bonus of the sound for live use is you never know what two samples you'll trigger at the same time which can lead to some serious collisions or spikes in volume... that shit keeps it tame but still let's it through..


it would have been dope if they made a cassette sim effect too.. I really like the tape delay... but a compressor/warp/tap type of thing would have been a cool one to have as well. It's too late now though because roland doesn't make that type of shit anymore.

universal audio got it locked down on the tape machine plugins, can change the tape material, IPS, tape size....crazy. Studer a-800 on multitracks outta the mpc and then the ampex atr-102 on the master bus when you start mixing really makes stuff sound bigger or smaller/lo-fi IMO....you can get all type of flavors outta those two machines

also the fatso plugin by UAD or the actual empircal labs box is dopppppe on drums too if you guys wanna actually mix in pro tools instead of 2 tracking into a sampler for that flavor.....I don't use fatso plug because I couldn't afford to cop it after my demo expired

another thing I do is speed my track up around 25% on my computer then record it through my tape machine and change the pitch back down to normal speed on my deck...

I modified an old Hohner RDM1000 with an external knob that replaces an internal trim pot which controls the sample rate of the input sound. Variable real-time aliasing along with delay and a PCM53 reverb.
