Yep that sucked me in ,just hoping Roland support it and don't drop it after the first plug in/out

Can't help but go back to Jan when Dan previewed 1.7 Beta and said, no real time frame on release but prob a month or two down the road.... Six months later and we trying to decipher tweets...



One day it will drop but I hope its's more than most expect

Can't be but too much noteworthy with "2.0" so close around the corner. I'd expect perhaps some significant plumbing changes to support whatever major moves they have planned for 2.0 (and hopefully they do), but imo I expect a lot of people to be disappointed by what they see... even if it sets the stage for a significant 2.0 release.

I've said for a while... I only want a couple of things, all related to plugin mode (virtual outs, midi implementation improvements), so I'm really not expecting much out of any of these releases (for me). If we get to 2.0, I'll know for sure whether this is heading in a direction that I'd like to see, as I'd expect by then they would have added some of the things that I want to see. Either way, can't say I'd get rid of it. Still like the MPC brand.

But this the same company that, just last release, boasted over 300 enhancements, with no list to prove it. I just don't see how anyone can objectively look at these types of tweets and get excited. Glad someone does I guess... But these guys have a history of over-selling and under-delivering.

Regarding the software, I use it. Though not as much as I would if I could seamlessly integrate it into my DAW workflow (ahem - more virtual outs). So I'll sit tight until 2.0, using it the little bit that I do. And then I'm sure I'll keep using it after that, though I hope they tend to some of the enhancements I'd like to see.

has there actually been any word on 2.0 from anyone from akai? where is this 2.0 speculation coming from?

just to point out, in software development version 1.7 doesn't at all mean that version 2.0 is 3 version changes away, it's perfectly valid and normal to have 1.10 follow 1.9, then 1.11, 1.12 etc. etc.

2.0 can mean anything, but usually to justify a new first number, it would denote that the software was significantly rewritten/restructured from the ground up. pete has said that 1.7 has a bunch of changes that will help them add more planned features, meaning there is stuff in 1.7 that is paving the way for stuff planned for at the least 1.8, and i'm sure there will be stuff they are hoping to get out in 1.8 that will probably be pushed back to a 1.9

giving 3-6 months (but really 6 months) for each version, there probably won't be a 2.0 for at least a year. even then they might want to add more features. they might want to keep adding features until people stop whining on the forums, so like version 1.gazillion, then after that they'll repackage it as a 2.0

one thing i didn't consider was the eventual release of a ren 2 or whatever, maybe they'll push out a 2.0 sooner with a better looking gui so they have something more impressive than the orange and red sequences to show off in promo videos

i believe the reason its taking so long is because they're trying to meet the demands of so many different users. they are taking their time to make sure it comes out right and makes current mpc users happy. they've also stated that this release lays the foundation for many things to come. if this is an overhaul of sorts (which many of you have requested - global mixer, different types of automation, audio tracks, etc) then wouldn't you prefer that they take their time and release it in a solid way? although the direction of the ren has been misguided at times i do believe they are relying on the feedback of current ren users to develop the software into something we're all really happy with. our feature request list is LONG - the fact that their taking this long on it should only tell you guys that they are trying to meet as many of these requests as possible and that they actually want it to WORK. Just my 2 cents of course..

2.0 probably not free. They are most likely building it separately as we speak. I think they are building the last versions for the 1.x series and seeing what works and what doesn't so that 2.0 works out more smoothly. Basically, 1.x versions are test versions.

We are unpaid beta testers. They should throw us a bone at least with some more built in VSTs as a token of gratitude.

Yeah Native Instruments was so silent for 2.0. They never even said that they working on it. I think was almost a year from 1.8.2 to 2.0 (with no other version inbetween).

For akai I just hope 1.7 gives me what I need/want because I'm not sure how much shelf life the mk1 versions of the ren and studio have left. 1.6 is fine for what I do, just some legacy features I want.
