shure sm57 views

Ive seen one in a pawn shop
60 quid

I just want to use it manly for recording acoustic guitar, singing, bongo's & percussion.
And spitting if I get the spirit.

Wondering what any of you lots views are on the matter, I use a Mpc 2ooo and I dont have a mixer that doesnt produce pure hiss, so I plan to just plug it into the in.

All advise and opinions are much appreciated.

pretty standard live mic, Its alright on acoustic instruments. If you are looking for a studio mic try and source out a Shure SM7B they are excellent for high-mid ranged vocalists.

How did you know I was a high midrange vocalist ( he screams) !
Yeah, they look nice, but wasted on my present basic set up.
Not to mention my finance.

do you know if sm57's have a good strong level when plugged strait into the record input on a mpc 2000 ?
and do you think they are relatively good quality mics for the price bracket?
My present mic sounds like dirty dishwater & mud.

SM58's and 57's are pretty much the standard live mic's for shows

don´t even look at the sm7b if you do not have a propper preamp with lots of gain even if you have the money to buy it - this mike is great but it need a lot of gain to work!

having a sm57 or a sm58 is pretty muc THE standart everywhere so you cannot go really wrong with that. i you have the chance try before you buy, because event those mikes are very sturdy and can take a lot of abuse an used item may be broken.

also look at the front grill to see if it is full of spit then you know it was used as a vocal mike before and need more attention, because it might have been dropped before.

I've had my 57 mic since the early 90's. Still works and sounds great.
