@tutor, I won't quote your response to prevent this from being long.
The key factor is when you own something it's your right to do with as you see fit.
Just because you are no longer developing it or supporting it should never mean you have to pass it on or allow further development by others.
Also we aren't talking about the type of people who would contact you about extending your work on one of your e-books, it's the type who would do it without your permission.
If we were truly talking about individuals who were about making something better and taking care of the needs of a community then fine.
Unfortunately that's not the world we live in.

As I said, my point is about people with good intentions and from that perspective, it seems a shame that someone would prevent those people keeping the legacy going, even though they had given up themselves. Just because they 'own' something, it doesn't mean they have to be a selfish **** about it once they are 'done' with it
