Was given an Mpc60!! have some questions

Hey all my friend took me to his buddies studio yesterday and through discussion I was given an Mpc 60! Iv owned a 2000, 2000xl and currently own a 4000 and a 500. I'm honored to have this old school beast in my possession and was wondering if someone could help me with sampling into this bad boy. There isn't a record screen button like most later mpcs. If anyone could give me a quick guide which screen I'm suppose to be in that would be great. Iv figured out how to load sounds and what not and fixed a few things for the owner on it that weren't working. Also if I were to post some pics of the inside would someone be able to let me know if it's maxed out? It's got the 8 out board but this thing is old school lol. Thanks again all.

Press the SOUNDS button, choose 1) Sample new sound (that is on OS 2.0, it is option 5 on OS 3.10).

Get the manual, for OS 2.0 or OS 3.10, depending on what version OS yours has, read the section on Sampling and Editing Drum Sounds (OS 2.0) or Creating and Editing Sounds (OS 3.10).

The 8 output board is standard, they don't come without it.

Options are the memory expansion board, the SCSI interface, and OS 3.10.

Sweet thanks a bunch can I still post pics of the internal for you to look at? And yes it is OS 2.0 where can I get OS 3.10? That's the 3k operating system no? and how hard is it to install? I'm currently at work but will post pics tonight

I'm most likely going to sell this for the guy. Iv seen them on eBay for $1200 starting bid but that's fully maxed out. Any ideas how much I could get for it stock? And would upgrading to 3.10 be worth it to add value?

Starting prices on eBay do not mean much, if they are never bought.

Check Completed Listing prices, to see what prices they actually sold for.

Some MPC60's do sell for $1000+, but...

It depends on which factory upgrades are fitted.
It depends on which vanity upgrades are fitted.
It depends whether an OG or a MkII.
It depends on the condition of the machine.
It depends what maintenance has been done.
It depends on what accessories are included.
It depends on whether private or commercial seller.

To me, a stock MPC60 in fair condition is worth around $400-500.

3.10 is an improvement, but without the SCSI interface and RAM upgrade to go with it, you're left with "a glass half full" as the saying goes...

Yea pretty sure it's all stock and it's an OG not a ll it has 2.02 installed I would post pic of internal but seems like a process to drop a photo in here

Both the ram and the SCSI are more marginal improvements than the workflow enhancements that 3.10 adds.

A unit with v3.10 and floppy drive without memory expansion would be a far better tool than a v2.14 unit with SCSI and the expansion.

However from the will it add value perspective he was asking about I can see what you are saying.

One think he really needs to understand is that the majority of people looking to buy a 60 are looking for a deal not a museum piece, so they mostly when they are cheap.

some things to keep in mind:

1: 3.10 adds the ability to sample more than 5 seconds at a time.
2: OS 2.02 won't support the SCSI card. you need at least 2.14. but i think 3.10 makes it more compatible with SCSI zip drives etc.

Ok thanks alot everyone iv learned alot about this mpc from you all. Seeing that I'm going to have to spend a few hundred to deck her out and then the waiting period for parts to arrive doesn't seem worth my time. I'm going to clean her up nice and fixed up the pad sensor due to its copper band disconnecting from its housing to which pads work fine now after reconnecting. Also he thought the screen was broken but screen works fine with no missing pixels or dead lines. So I'll sell it as original and see if I can make him a few hundred bucks. Thanks again all
