THE TOP 100 FORUM MEMBER LISTED FEATURE REQUEST COMPILATION AS OF 2014 (Pre 1.7)

1. STABILITY – Software that rarely crashes or hangs.

2. Efficient Software: OS that doesn’t tax the users computer, much more efficient than Ver. 1.6

3. Multi-Processor Support with usage Monitoring (indicator).

4. LAST UNSAVED SESSION - the ren should have an auto save backup system that saves up to the last move that the user made in the event of a crash. After a crash a software prompt should appear on screen allowing the option to open the last unsaved session. (ableton live does this well).

5. UNLIMITED UNDO - The user should be able to undo every previous move from the last time the session was opened. Full recall with no bugs please.4. Track Explode Function - Takes multiple sounds programmed and assigns each to its own new track.

6. Browser Sample Audition Volume Control.

7. REAL TIME PITCH & STRETCH MODE on a Grid with piano roll - Switch to REAL TIME PITCH & STRETCH MODE and the samples and wave forms appear on the grid for that track where the pitch and length can be adjusted in real time while the sequence is playing.

8. Freeze VSTi To Pad - Freeze a phrase to a pad. Freeze with or without effects options. Freeze option allows user to select the program and pad location to send the sound or phrase to.

9. Song Mode Sequence Length Settings Function - Able to change sequence lengths in song mode to ½ a beat, 1 beat, ½ a bar, 1,2,3,4 baretc. The Start Point and Loop Points of the sequence -in song mode- should be adjustable to beats and bars (like scene quantize in ableton live). Start point of each sequence could be set to start at bar 2 measure 2 etc…

10. Background Multitasking - The ability to browse, load, edit, sample, switch presets (whilst your beat is still playing), without experiencing glitches, slow down, loss of audio etc. (like Ableton Live). This would allow us to do things like play and tweak parameters live while recording the audio and then going back through and chop out the good pieces for building sampler instruments or FX banks of sounds for example. (This would also help in live performances).

11. Multiple Plug-In View - Ability to have multiple plug ins open at one time Or an optional setting that does not close out the plug in when you open another. "Pin" open vst(i) window.

For example, pin an instrument and adjust setting while simultaneously adjusting the settings on a compressor that is inserted on the program without having to go back and forth opening window after window.

12. One Touch Automation – Press this key and turn knob relating to ANYTHING and the change is stored in record & overdub modes. (maschine does this currently).

13. Song Mode Automation Function - Remembers all track mutes, fades, effects levels, panning in real time. Hopefully this is addressed with the addition of a global mixer.

14. CPU AUDIO to MPC in - set the audio input to record internally what ever is coming from the Computer, i.e. Youtube, media players and other DAWs Etc.

15. Vintage Mode Effects: Assignable as a plug-in to individual tracks. 48. Double Click Sample to View Sample Editor of Choice. Ableton Live-like feature where double-clicking on a sample (or by some other method), your audio editor of choice opens up the selected sample, or at least opens the Ren’s sample editor.

16. Mixer Channel Size Options - Thin, Med & Large or completely flexible Selectable Channel Width Sizes the track width should be adjustable to fit more tracks in view (possible 40 viewable tracks).

17. Mixer Channel Order Option- Drag a Mixer Channel to any location to reorder the channels as desired.

18. Buss Channels - to save on processing power summing mixing using busses would be a great addition to the MPC software. 10. SYNCH ON - OFF Function - The ability to disengage the synch in plug-in mode to allow quick workflow offline mode within the MPC software. Then one-click sync back within the DAW as a plug in.

19. Effect Gesture Plug IN - (applied globally & individually) like on the Akai’s IMPC FLUX PRO
reminds me of Stutter Edit. (Tape Stop, Beat Repeat, Filters Turntable, Effects and Gestures).

20. Song Mode Scroll Position - Scroll to song position with jog shuttle and double click on location to play from that position.

21. VISUAL TIME STRETCH (Drag the sample end to to time stretch or time compress) - IMO Nuendo has the simplest way of time stretching with an on screen view of the sample that the user can click on select time stretch and drag the sample end to a longer or shorter position on a grid. This should be visible while playing the sequence versus typing in numbers speed and tempo.

22. Drag and Drop Midi Files Into The Ren MIDI Instrument Track. The software automatically creates an Instrument track when dragged to an empty spot on the global mixer or scene screen. Giving the user the option of selecting a VSTi to generate the sound.

23. Drag and Drop Loops to a Track without using hitting a pad, like ableton live it creates a track automatically. The software could reference the loop location and play from that location or creates a program and assigns it to a pad automatically.

24. AUDIO TRACKS (the most requested feature).

25. NON-DESTRUCTIVE SAMPLE CHOPPING

26. LOCK SLICES (see RECYCLE)

39. REX FILES & Apple Loops Compatibility - Reading of REX files and Apple Loops seamlessly with tag system within the browser.

40. Sound Library Compatibility: Reading .nik or Kontakt Files, all legacy Akai formats and Reason Refills.

41. Patch Phrase Folder Function - Samples can be dropped into a folder and the system will automatically begin to analyze in succession each sample only prompting the user to set the bar length.

42. A-Z Alpha Numerical Sample Listing - within a program and browser.

43. Sample Edit Double Click Function - Double clicking on a sample in the loaded project takes us to the sample edit screen.

44. Draw Mode Default Option- Allows the user to choose select draw mode as a default.

45. 16 TUNINGS Default Option: Option to set the 16 Tunings to be the first option instead of velocity. (is this already possible?)

46. Side Chain Capabilities on every track and buss.

47. Drag and Drop Midi Files Into The Ren MIDI Instrument Track. The software automatically creates an Instrument track when dragged to an empty spot on the global mixer or scene screen. Giving the user the option of selecting a VSTi to generate the sound.

48. VSTi Multiple Outs - For VST's like Kontakt or Omnisphere

49. Events Editor Select all Function - Select all the events in the List Editor and simultaneously change the value of an event.

50. Note On One Shot Pad Preview Function during Sample Edit.

51. DRAG & DROP Functionality: For Effects, Virtual Instruments, MIDI Files, Filters and Sample Slices from chop mode to a pad.

52. Pad Option: Sample Sustain Overlap Function - Having longer, sustaining samples crossfade when sequences change. It would be nice to have an option per pad to do this (like a checkbox in the PAD PLAY MODES section).

53. Additional Sample Types: Reverse, Reverse then Forward and Ping Pong and others.

54. Scheduled Auto Save Function: Options to set automatic scheduled auto saves, every 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes Etc…

55. Chord Builder / Generator – Chord Presets can be loaded to the pads from genre specific sets, such as Blues, Dance, R&B, Country, EDM, Pop, Alternative, Soul, Gospel and classical Etc..

68. External Midi out to DAW

69. Plugin Delay Compensation

70. Customizable keyboard/hardware shortcuts (so people can have there zoom and other functions where they want them).

71. Drag and Drop Audio or Midi to & from REN to DAW

72. MIDI From MPC Plug In To DAW - Allow sequence played in the MPC software to be displayed as midi in DAW for DAW sequencing - support multi timbral out.

73. Real Time Swing (should be able to hear change to swing in real time like the mpc 4000)

74. Different Automation Modes - Curved Automation. Etc.

75. Time Signature Enhancement - Determine a time signature per bar like on the MPC 1000.
(Right now, it's only per Sequence...)

76. One Shot Sample Playback in Sample Edit Mode

77. Additional Filters - 2 Filters (Kontakt, Machfive 3, etc..) A second filter opens up a lot of possibilites for shaping sounds and creating unique filter types. Also one could perform utility functions while the other was used creatively.

78. Insert Silence w/the ability to shift the audio to the right (extending the sample length) rather than just silencing what is there, in addition to the current silence functionality (Battery 4).

79. Unity Gain Command - Option Click returns parameters to default/unity on a track.

80. Color Coding Tracks – Assign colors to tracks for better track management.

83. "AUTO NAME" feature that allows the user to save the sequence with todays date automatically unless you click on the box and type it in?

84. 16 Tunings/ Levels Full Range - More than one 16 levels feature would be dope for example if you select 16 levels or chromatic pads, selecting pad bank B picks up where A left off, C where B left off etc..

85. Saving Qlink presets would be nice. I would like to be able to not only program the Qlinks but also name the params they control. Having a name is much more user friendly that displaying a MIDI CC number.

86. Controllable chop 'Release' similar to Recycle and MPC1000, which creates an additive decay at the end of each chop to eliminate 'choppiness'. Different to the release in ADSR.

87. View All Used Sounds - a way to view all active /used sounds regardless of what track they are from on one screen.

88. Save and Recall Envelope/LFO Presets

89. Additional Vintage Mode : ASR-10 vintage mode, S-950 vintage mode, 8-bit vintage mode.

90. Show Sample in Folder Function: right-clicking on a sample in the software had a "show in Finder / Explorer" option if you wanted to do some editing to a sample: it'd locate it for you, you could edit it and bring it back into Ren.

91. The ability to select all tracks for bringing all their volume up/down.

92. DB Meters- Put db numbers on all volume meters, Master, Mixer, etc, so I can visually see exactly how loud my signals are

93, Arpeggiator Mode available for each instrument track.

94. Record to Tracks in Song Mode -Recordable Song mode, where you could play patterns on the pads, recording your song in real time.

95. Convert slices to keygroup program

96. Track Name Presets – Lead Vocal, Backing Vocal, Vocal Harmony, Bas Drum, Kick 1, Kick 2, Piano, Keys, Synth 1, Guitar, Guitar 2, Lead Gtr …. Etc….

97. Software to Hardware Connectivity: - The software often doesn’t see the hardware or it may take several times to see the hardware. This needs to improve. Much more stability.

98. MIDi CONTROL TEMPLATES- MPC Ren preset templates to control; the users DAW of choice,: Ableton Live, Studio One, Pro-tools, Logic, Reaper, etc..

99. Tail Stretch Feature: The stretch feature that automatically adds a tail to samples with reverb and short delay combined when u chop like in recycle.

100. FX UTILITIES MODE: Allows the user to assign plugins, filters, effects to a sample then freeze it to a pad.

PS... More Plug In Compatibility, many of the plug-ins do not work with the MPC REN so it forces us to change my workflow to ableton live while creating a beat. I would rather stay entirely inside the MPC REN.

This list is a summery of items listed after reviewing this forum and the Akai Forum.

:Sigh:

last time you posted a list of 17 things, and i suggested you stick to one or two points at a time if you want people to read and reply to your stuff.... so you turn around and post 100 points...

 nobody gonna read that

seriously i'm not going to read it, at all. 100 points? prioritise some! when people write petitions to get companies to act or to change the way things are, they don't list 100 demands, they list 1 demand then get 1 million people to sign and say 'i agree'. if you said hey please sign my petition of 100 points to the government to someone on the street they'd say **** off, i'm busy, ain't nobody got time to read that shit

I got to 5 and then skipped to 30 then 80 then 100.
Also gonna move to ren forums since THIS is about pre 1.7 :?
Doesn't need to be in sample news and announcements :?

Prioritizing is key. Some of these are just wish list fantasizing like additional vintage modes. I'm happy with the modes as they are. Since they are all just different settings of the decimator plug in, you can take the time to tell us what settings to use for the ASR-10 sound.

If I were a software programmer I would immediately ignore this as it is not workable for prioritizing what needs to be done next. I think the people have already spoken, and it seems FX automation and the mixer are what people want fixed the most. I personally would like the ability to live sample audio tracks as I am more of a guitarist then a keyboardist, but I have only seen a couple of people ask for that feature. Below that, only one person on the forums has asked for groove extraction, though I am not against that, just most people including me do not see that as a priority. I also realize the record live audio feature is not a priority (though it would be great for me,) so I do not harp on it or expect it anytime soon.

A list like this might work better as a poll where each person could list a selection of five features they care most about, though it is a bit too long to expect everyone to read all of it.

audio tracks haven't been ruled out for 1.7. there are obviously do not disclose agreements in effect to stop leaks from coming out (probably for the best, so people don't get upset that features might have been too buggy and had to be removed/date set back, like last update), so we don't know exactly what's coming.

maybe a tester can reply with a  for yes there are audio tracks coming or a  for no not this release

but yeah i'd kill for audio tracks, they should make it possible to set up an audio track that would work like a looper. i'm also a bit of a guitarist as well as producer so with the addition of the audio tracks, the ren would be a real monster if it could combine sampling and sequencing with a clever audio track/loop function

For all Those features on the list, just get the MPC studio and a DAW, forget 1.7
By Chillin Tue Jul 08, 2014 10:22 am
I'm sure those peeps from N.I. are looking at this and, into this list as well.

Btw, iMPC Pro is out now, July 8th. A lot of people, were speculating that V1.7 would be incoherence with the iMPC Pro. Let's see if V1.7 is going to be released very soon.

As for the list request, you should have saved some for future updates, like V1.8, V1.9...V2.0 ect...

A list with that many requests for V1.7 as it is now, is a bit absurd. We need to be reasonable and objective. The Ren needs improvements, but let's take it one-step at a time. For the sake of stability.

If you demand all these functions, it's best to write your own application. Then you'll realize that it takes at least a year to do.

Pete ruled out audio tracks yesterday.

People are barking at the wrong person (aka Pete). This seems to be a corporate issue and we need to sign a petition or something to have them listen or a class action will begin to get refunded for what we paid for the systems. I doubt that 100 percent of that list will ever be coded in; even with a paid release (aka 2.0).

There has to be a satified level set in stone. In other words... The point where even without these 100 features the industry is satisfied.

Once that is established; i'm sure good things will work itself into the software.

If you ever owned an MPC 60, then the REN right now (minus the crashes) is a dream MP. We had no chopping, drag n drop drums and samples onto a pad, limited sample time, 4banks, no vintage mode,Q links, VST effects, 4 part layering, a gang of filters.... If they just get stabilize the software I can't complain. Sure I would like to see a few more things, because we're in the technology age and they can be done, but how much do you need to make a track, that in some cases may never be heard

In the software world, the MPC software momentarily is lacking.
