having trouble choosing to buy a 1000 or 2000xl

so i need some guidance. i have had a 500 but that about 6 years ago. i'm in the market for some good ol hardware as i'm not wanting to be relying 100% on my computer to make beats anymore. i have various 1000's on ebay and a specific 2000xl that has a cf card reader. my question is which is a better machine?
i have used the 1000 a long time ago but it was a friends so i wasn't able to get used to it. and i have only seen the 2000xl a few times in action.
what i want my mpc for is to make the good basic sample based beats/synth sampled music.

how organized are the 2? i remember i was able to have folders and sub folders on my 500 so what i'm wondering is am i able to do the same on both machines to keep myself organized?

and how easy is it to sample into the mpc's while the beat plays? i used to use my 500 like that. i would go to record mode and press play and the beat would play in the background.

I think you want the 1000. The XL is a great machine, more solidly built, but limited when compared to a 1000 especially with JJOS on board. Also all XL LCDs are going to die eventually and you cant really really get a replacement anymore. I have both units but if I only could get one I'd go 1000.

The 1000 will do all you asked about, and will be easier to share files with your 500. You will find the 1000 to be like the bigger version of your 500, with 4 more pads and much more data viewable on the LCD.

The XL sounds a little better on the low end, but it's very subtle, not like a 60/3000 were the sound character is far more pronounced. The 1000 will sound just like your 500.

Be sure if you go with a 1000, that it has the newer pads, more of an issue on blue ones than black, but always check for pad revision two in any case. And many used ones often have a paid JJOS installed already. The license is machine specific so it belongs to you after buying the machine.

Only other thing is even pad version 2, which are the traditional uniform rubber sheet plus sensor sheet under it, have a gap between the underside of the pads and sensors. There you can use Nym's dry able silicone method under the pads to close the gap. Or for $40 get fat pads. I have the Fat Pads, and after calibrating the sensitivity, especially on JJOS-XL the performance is stellar. No fix you need to do a lot of two finger bashes or go full level.
