Octave difference between MPC pad and synth key

my set up is MPC1000/JJOS2XL connected through MIDI to an Alesis Micron:

Micron MIDI IN to MPC OUT B
Micron MIDI OUT to MPC IN 2

I did a 3-voice "set up" for the Micron with:
Micron voice 1 going to MPC channel 1B, track 6
Micron voice 2 going to MPC channel 2B, track 7
Micron voice 3 going to MPC channel 3B, track 8

Then I set voice 2 and 3 on the micron as MUTE. Only voice 1 sounds when I press a Micron key.

However when I press the MPC pad 5 on bank C, the MPC displays in the lower right of the screen "72 C-4" . The problem is it does NOT sound as when I press C-4 on my Micron kbd, instead it sounds as when I press the key C-2 on the Micron (I checked: no transpose on the Micron !).

Why is there a pitch difference of 2 octaves between MPC and Micron for the same note C-4 ? Also I checked on the web a MIDI note table, and sure enough C-4 (ie middle C) got a MIDI note as 60 not 72....

In fact I was expecting that when I press C-4 on the MPC it should display note number 60 AND sound the same as when I press key C-4 on my un-transposed Micron.

Basically why is it the MPC assigns to C-4 a MIDI number one octave more than "normal" (ie 72 vs 60) and at the same time sounds 2 octaves higher than my Micron ?

thanks for the reply, but I feel this is a bit different: it is mostly about finding out if the apparent inconsistencies between instruments, re: midi notes, octave #, etc.
are due to my lack of understanding or to some other reason ...

Also with JJOS2XL I just saw in the manual the "pad to midi" screen. It allows to set the notes for each pad in each bank (and possibly save that).
So I can assign pad 1A to C-4. But for JJOS C-4 is midi note 72 and not 60.

Interestingly there seem to be some controversy as to whether C-4 is midi note 60 or 72 ....

This is quite confusing

In addition, on my (0 transpose) micron synth the "C-4" key sounds just like C-2 (midi note 48) on the MPC ...

So unless there is a logical explanation, and to keep going, I guess I just need to accept the adjustment: note micron synth=note MPC + 2 octaves.

Thanks, I have not yet, I am still trying to figure out the MIDI sides of the MPC1000 ....

Not sure about the octave issue what you're experiencing, but I've always considered C3 to be note 60, C4 = 72 etc.
