How can I change presets on a module from my MPC

Say I'm on preset one on my mophat & want to scroll thru the rest from my MPC 4000 without touching the mophat..

Not talking about midi channels but presets on an external sound module via midi..

I have all the midi cabling sorted so no issues there

Is it possible ?

Look up program changes in your MPC4000 reference manual.

You'll also need the MIDI implementation for the Mo Phatt, for BANK and PROGRAM change settings (LSB + MSB).

I am not sure that there is an easy way to 'scroll thru' presets from the MPC4000.

You can assign a Program Change to an MPC track, which gets sent when Play Start is pressed, or when Next Sequence or Song functions change to that sequence.

You can also insert Program Changes into sequences, so that it changes programs during the sequence playback.

Yeah its a bit of a mystery to me.. I know I can eat up my midi channels & assign patches to different midi channels but that's not what what I want to do :Sigh:

I want to remotely from my mpc be able to audition patches from external gear..

It can be done.

Go the the "pgm" section on the MAIN screen. Hit the Orange Window button.

Enable program changes. Now it is enabled from the MAIN screen. By flipping thru the numbers off-127 will change the preset number, but it will not change the bank. (the subscript numbers next to the preset number, and these are VERY important).

Normally I just find the sound I like in the Emu, and use the window button to set the MSB and LSB numbers so it will automatically find my presets upon loading.

Guess how you find the correct MSB and LSB....?

Hit the audition button on the Emu...They will pop up on the screen.

Use these numbers, along with the Program change menu accessed via the Window Button and use the pgm change to dial up the preset you desire.

You lost me on the MSB & LSB could you point me in the right direction as to where to find this in the manual.

Good to see that after being spoonfed, Von still keen to read and understand.

You'll find the information 'hidden' in the manual, not hard to find.

Its humbling to have used the 4000 for years & still not mastered it all..

I have a new respect for the machine each time I discover something else that it dose
I just wish the manuals weren't so F'd up..

Welcome to the club! I just bought a MPC studio, but my 4k had shown me that just when I think I know it all there's ALWAYS something else.

MIDI Bank select is awesome once you find the sound you want to use in the Emu. This is where you can drop these MSB and LSB numbers (audition button on the Emu), and once everything is dialed in, you can save and reload and your presets will snap back to where you saved them.
