Control Main Volume with MIDI

Is there a way to control the main volume on the MPC 1000 via an external MIDI device? I'm unable to hear sound from either my headphone jack or main output in the back of the MPC. I've made sure that the main volume output is 0dB and the volume on all of the pads are at their highest level. I turn the main volume knob physically and nothing is heard. I'm able to send signal through the input of the MPC, but no sound is heard from there, either. Could it be that I need a new volume encoder? I don't think the entire ADDA board is bad or else I wouldn't be able to see the input signal come through.

so you get no sound at all. What about the 1-4 outputs? have you tried them? You need to assign the samples output first in the program. Have you tried that?
I am assuming you are using your own programs that have there own samples loaded right? I mean whats the history, has it ever made sound, you just get it ? helps to know so we can figure it out,.

No sound through the main outputs in the back or out of the headphone jack. tried assigning the output to one of the four assignable mix outputs and no dice. Installed a new volume encoder and still no audio. I bought it off someone who said it was able to output sound at one point, but not now. I'm handy at fixing electronics equipment, so I thought I could do a simple fix of the volume encoder, but it looks like this one is a bit too much to handle. It has JJOS 5.00 installed (paid version), so I could flip it as for parts or not working and someone with a bit more expertise than I can fix it.

So on a whim, I removed a friend's right PCB from his MPC 1000 and installed it into mine. Lo and behold, sound is present! It was the right PCB all along. I didn't notice anything wrong with the board when I first looked at it...might be a cracked signal path in a place where my eyes can't see. Good to see that some 200 and 300 level detective work was able to figure out this mystery!
