Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500
By LiveFromThe Wed Jul 30, 2014 10:41 pm
hey everyone,

i just got my mpc 500 in the mail (was purchased on ebay) and when i went to turn it on after i installed the ram, it was stuck on the "MPC startup" screen and didn't move from there at all no matter what I pressed, though it would flicker a bit.

i read through earlier posts of other users who had the same trouble and tried removing the ram but to no avail, it's still stuck on the startup screen. i also tried the power on while clicking "erase/undo" button, but again, no luck.

might just have to return it. thank you in advance for any ideas/suggestions.

Jumping to conclusions aren't?
There is the possibility that he did something to mess it up when he opened it to add the ram.

You should always check things out thoroughly before you start making changes when it's from eBay.

What did it do before you installed the RAM?

If its fresh from the mail, its best to handle it quick. However, I'll bite.

Does it work without the RAM? It could be bad RAM.

I remember years back when 500 first came out there were some people who damaged their 500 trying to install RAM.

Just wondering if this was another case of that happening?

Any links to that issue? I just got RAM for my 500 and I have the same problem as the OP. But when I took the RAM out and started up again it worked normal without the RAM. Perhaps it's the wrong kind of RAM. I think I got the right one; it is 256MB PC133 SODIMM SDRAM 133 MHz LAPTOP MEMORY RAM?

Or because I bought my MPC used, maybe the original owner had messed it up previously with the issue you are talking about?

:hmmm: Seems like the correct specs for the RAM.

This thread is a little old but I hope it helps.

I had the same Issue.

I was using a 12V 850mA adapter, and no way, it keep stuck in the main screen, like 80% of the time when I first started using it. Now it keeps stuck all the time with that adapter. I wouldn't recommend plugin it in to your MPC .

I stopped using that one, and switched to a 800mA adapter, same voltage, and no problem. Works perfectly.

Figured out my issue a while back but forgot to post it here just in case it helps anybody else. The RAM I received had all 8 chips of the 256MB mounted on the same side of the RAM and the MPC 500 only reads one side; so was looking for MBs that weren't there. Got a different 256MB RAM with 128MB on each side and working smooth now!

I'll add to this topic thread the importance of using a 500mA or maximum a 600mA regulated adapter or most likely will give you problems.

I'll link the thread in which is explained in details the ac/dc adapter requirements.
