thinking of trading in my mpc60 for a 1000 w/ jjos. my primary reasons for upgrading are the advanced sequencing capabilities of jjos, memory (impossible to do a live set w/o long interruptions for loading on my 60) & size to an extent.

i understand the sonic differences but are there any sequencing or other capabilities i'd be losing out on from making the switch?

heya,

thinking about potentially picking up an mpc1000 but a little concerned about the few # of outputs relative to my 60. one 'trick' i can do on the 60 if i for some reason need extra outs is to lower the volume on the main stereo mix for all sounds routed to the 8 individual outs to 0 (while keeping their volume up in the indv./assignable outputs), then hard pan the only sounds coming out of the stereo outs so they function just like 2 extra individual outs.

is it possible to do this on the mpc 1000 to get a total of 6 individual outs?

hope that makes sense, thanks in advance :worthy:

much appreciated man, thank you for the quick response :)

now the hard decision of whether to trade in my 60 for the lighter 1k... :hmmm:

definitely a consideration too, although size & saving a few bucks is one reason i kinda wanted to swap the 60 out (would get jjos + the tilt/large screen mod on the 1k). actually in the process right now of reading through the comparison threads on the 2 elsewhere here in the forum :)

again, much appreciation for the input!

definitely a consideration too (i could prolly do that now).

I'd keep both.
Like Simon said.
You can get a 1 pretty cheap, the price is super reasonable compared to anything back in the 90's.
But the 60 is a collectors item.
You could still use it just to get that sound and feel.
The 1 isn't going to sound or feel like it.

Thats something I would coop up.

thanks so much for the tip :worthy:

i've been trying to convert my .snd files to wav using this tool but am receiving the following message: "xxx.snd not supported MPC file". I do have 3.10OS on the 60 and they read fine on the machine itself -- I'm thinking this might possibly be related to my computer being Win7 64-bit rather than the suggested 32-bit OS but not sure...

Has anyone experienced something similar or are there any other alternatives out there? Worst comes to worst, I could manually resample all the sounds from the 60 into the 1000 but that's a pain in the ass I'd like to avoid if possible :/

I used a 60 for years then got a 1000 with JJ OS in 2006 I think. Barely used the 60 since. Love the sound but the time it takes to do stuff plus you can't really play with the samples that much, no looping, filters, etc. Still sounds great but sequencing a bunch of gear in song mode you will get slower screens the more data is in the machine, tight timing great sound, plush user interface. I still have it for guests to have, but the 1000 with JJ OS 2XL is amazing, I would do the trade unless you could get more straight cash than a good 1000 costs.

Honestly I try to use the Old MPC's now, the 3000, 60, even the 5000 and the Ren, and the old school screen just turns me off after JJ, I miss being able to adjust values with the sliders, basically all the user feedback in the OS makes it such a dream, still discovering shit I didn't know it could do and new ways of fliping and working.

The 6 outs work easy but if you need more the 2500, the portability of the 1000 and the rugged build makes it a better travel machine.

right on elmacaco & thanks for the feedback on goldwave bugfix!

Got my 1000 this last weekend and have had a chance to mess around with it since. Took off the XLCD right away (for sale on the marketplace here if anyone's interested) and reinstalled the small screen, bought & installed JJOS2XL on sunday and so far couldn't be happier.

For all the flack that ppl give the pads, I have the fat pads from mpc-stuff and they're actually quite a bit MORE sensitive than the 60 pads. They don't feel as 'squishy' or 'nice' but function just as well if not better. Plus the ability to adjust sensitivity is nice.

The sound is actually refreshing going from the 60... more clarity and not sure if it's just me but the low end on an 808 kick just sounds a bit more round, fuller. I have an sp-505 connected to it for resampling if i need to add a little bit of 12 bit grit.

The sequencer though... so nice! haven't dove far into jjos yet but i can absolutely see myself using this live, muting/solo'ing tracks via pads is a serious godsend to my workflow. I make more housey/uptempo electronic music and knocking out an arrangement is super simple, substantially faster than on the 60.

The only issue I've found so far is if I stop the sequencer, adjust some certain program settings/step edit and then relaunch the sequencer, any synth that i have synced/clocked with its own internal sequencer is 1/16th note late to play the 1st step of its pattern so at least 1 note is always off timing-wise :(

When I relaunch the sequencer again (so if I stop the bad sequence and then do play-start a 2nd time), the problem goes away. It's not the biggest deal in the world since i don't expect to be stopping the sequencer & making adjustments like that live but still a little annoying.

Has anyone experienced this/have any tips for what it could be?

Are you stopping the sequencer mid-sequence, making your adjustments, then continuing by pressing "PLAY" (as opposed to PLAY-START)?
By ilyag55 Wed Aug 27, 2014 7:16 pm
ya, happening when i use play-start. when i get home, i can let you know exactly what actions cause it.

on a side note: is there any way in jjos to display the length of time the sequence has been running like an mpc 60? so, for example, if i'm looping a 4 bar pattern for, is there any window that can let me know how many mins/secs the sequencer has been running without stop?
