Mpc 2000 Sample Storage Options ?

I know this has been covered before in previous threads but non of them have left me any the wiser.
I sure as f**k am not about to spend the same price I paid for my mpc on a outmoded scsi storage system.

But I'm on 10 floppy disks per song. and when I come back half the time in the space of 29 minutes the floppy's corrupted,
Might be my floppy drive
Might be WH Smith's !


I've been thinking about getting a external scsi CD Rom drive & putting a 9.1 hard drive in.

I know some cat did some similar thing with a optical Drive.

Anny advise from 2000 heads would be much apreicated, to the hilt.

My advice would be to post the question in the MPC2000 section of the forums, not the MPC60/3000 section.

Other than that, just do it.

I would spend the money and get a CF solution happening.

I bought an optical drive for the 2k earlier during the year. The drive failed on me a few months ago. I never had any problems with the discs, so I may buy another MO drive. For now I'm using floppies.

Are you comfortable with building your own? If so, I'd suggest buying the parts (drive, enclosure, cables) and save a lot of money. I always built my own PCs since the late '90s. So this was fun to do, and I recommend it. If you need any further help, let me know.

One of the new Stratos Technologies CF RaizinMonster SCSI-CF readers would be a good option, either in an external SCSI case, or internally, with the external MPC SCSI port rerouted internally.

external Cf's are not available in the U.K and with the import costs I'm looking at £200
Which just isn't going to happen.
But I reckon I could make a cf drive out of a scsi Rom drive and a few bits.

So anyway
I'm thinking about getting a external hard drive.
both the floppy drives are temperamental in my S3000 & my MPC

You've got to give credit to those guys who made tunes on that oldskool stuff
Saved it on 140 or sumat mg disks.
But it's the 21 st century
These floppy disks are getting on my nerves,


Surely there is a cheaper solution, I suspect I'd be as useless with zip drives as floppy's
But 100mb sounds better than 1.

I've been saving my MPC 2000 beats on a SCSI 100 mb ZIP for like 12 years and never had any issues. Like you said, 100 mb is waaaay better than freakin' floppies.

The ONLY warning I have about ZIP is don't use the external classic blue drives from IOMEGA. They suck hard and will fail on you.

I use an INTERNAL ZIP drive that I've put in a hard drive SCSI enclosure.
Didn't cost me much and still working like a charm to this day.

Yeah 100mb sounds so much easier than floppy's
To be able to save a song in one go would be a lot better than the palaver of floppy's, and when I reload a song there's inevitably something missing, so I just end up, with the scratch version of a tune and don't get to work on it further.
Anyway, I think I'll hold my hands up & apologize for over reacting at you.

Not sure the route I'm going to go in, really depends on what's available when I have the disposable income, did'nt know those blue Iomega ones had a bad rep, so I'll bare that in mind.

If you go ahead with an internal SCSI ZIP drive with an externanl enclosure, just make sure you do by the right ZIP drive. The ATAPI drive looks exactly the same as the SCSI but it won't work. So keep you're eyes open when buying

And even if I repeat myself, stay away from the external blue ones!!
This is a life saving advice lol.

All suggestions above are solid, I use ext zip drive for mine, I would still recommend being careful with zip drives whether ext or internal, to my knowledge there is no significant difference in the technology for all zip drives, they are prone to failure, just cuz someone was lucky doesnt mean u will b. I never leave a disk in the drive and have all my stuff backed up on my cpu. There are also older hard drives that can b had for cheap, I have a syquest with removable 270 mb cartridges for my eps that I got for 60 $ Canadian including 6 cartridges. Personally I have found tho with the 2000 classic mass storage is a huge pain especially if u r trying to transfer to and from a pc, I gave up on using it for anything else but drums and sequencing and have other samplers for storage.
