The kick and the hats sound closer to a 909 than the Volca. For $200, it's worth it to me. I'm sure I can layer both drum machines together nicely, like I used to to with ReBirth back in the day. Definitely good for some techno and house bangers. More than enough sounds between the two for some fat breaks. The SP-404SX slaved to it is gonna be the icing on the cake.

Well... this is no where near what I thought this was going to sound like. Refreshing to hear that it is not an 808/909 machine but that is about all I have to say so far.

Whoa. I didn't even know about this until just a few minutes ago. I might have to buy it and see what it's like, the price seems really decent. Either that or I might just demo it at Guitar Center. I've either owned or tested all of the new generation of MPC's except for the new Renaissance line and have been pretty disappointed although the 2500 was actually pretty nice in my opinion.

@Tekno - I only sold the Bass. Kinda glad that for that too.

Gotta love opening a backpack to see the Keys, Beats and the SP404!

Ever since I bought the MPC1000 10 years ago, I've been skeptical as well. But for $200, you get your money's worth, especially when it was designed to be modified. The Rhythm Wolf should be as successful as the Volcas, in my opinion. Definitely give them a try at GC. If not, just buy one and return it if you don't like it. You'll still get a full refund.

What made you wanna sell the Bass? I was ready to buy one a few months ago, but I didn't like how shitty the pots felt. I still have my Beats and my Keys. I was getting bored with them, which happens from time to time. But sampling them and running the FX on the 404SX give both pieces a lot more potential.

Just my personal opinion about this thing, so don't kill me please...

I think this product can be classified as a toy or audio gimmick. People say: "Ahh well, it's just 200 bucks, i'll get it at that price, i mean, right?, it's a good deal...". I can somehow even understand it... yeah, you get a whole brand new drum machine for just 200 bucks, and it's ANALOGUE!!!

Ten years later you sit there and spent 2'000 dollars for a room filled with cheap ass music toys that at their best sound halfway usable.

I think if people would think a little more long-term (something that seems to be a lost art these days), they could save the 200 bucks they spend on cheap toys, and two or three years later, they could actually buy a decent high quality drum machine that sounds rock solid.

I'm not really gonna pass judgement on it until i've tried it.. I dont really care how much things cost, if it sounds good, it sounds good...

I have heard the audio demo, which sounds more or less like a 200 dollar toy would sound.

I'm not saying shit has to be expensive to be good. But honestly, what do you expect from a 200 dollar analogue drum machine FROM AKAI???

By all means, go get it... i'm sure it'll sound at least as nice as a tempest...
