Direct Record Feature not on JJOS 128 XL - Options? - UPGRAD

I upgraded my MPC 2500 to the XL LCD screen from the original AKAI OS. When I did so, I lost my "Direct Record" function from my MPC. The direct record function just so happens to be my favorite function on the MPC 2500. Since I use a lot of hardware keyboards and external instruments, and just record in. Now, I can't use that function being on JJOS 128 XL. This really bums me out and makes me want to go back to the original AKAI OS. Can I …. either upgrade my JJOS 128 to have the direct function? OR … Do I need to pull the Original AKAI OS, download, reinstall, and reattach the old screen? (i heard that its a pain in the ass to do this, and may cause problems with my MPC) Please, someone let me know what my options are. I love my MPC, its also loaded with 1,000's of my personal samples, so I don't wanna sell it. It also has lots of personal upgrades cosmetically. What are my options??? PLEASE HELP! JJOS has no Direct Recording.

Doesn't JJOS use "audio tracks"? I use these to record my instruments just how you use "direct record" and they work without a hitch.

Thank you for your responses. I know the JJOS 128 doesn't have direct recording. I was hoping that there might be an upgrade or modification I could install. I tried the "audio track" but I receive a signal in, but then it won't allow me to play my keyboard in record mode? …not sure why? … so I didn't think that was the way to do it. I will work with the "audio track" feature a little more to see what i can figure out. Thank you medearis for pointing me in the write direction. Could you maybe do a brief run through of how you hook things up on the MPC 2500, for the "audio track" record in? Maybe I'm just missing a simple step. I'm on a 1K using JJOS1 but I think the Audio Track feature should work the same:

- Go to Track56 (I THINK is the start of your Audio Tracks, you will see)
- Highlight the LEVEL section and press WINDOW, turn monitor on/off, set up whether or not you are recording in STEREO or MONO.
- Make sure your connections are hooked up to your REC IN
- Press REC + PLAY START and you will see a count in (1-2-3-4-) on the screen, will count in according to your BPM/metronome settings.
- Rock the eff out
- The MPC will automatically stop recording at the end of your pattern - audio is truncated to fit the loop if you will.
- Play it back! Bob your head.

My MPC is not here at my house right now so I am not 100% sure if this is correct. I could be wrong on the Audio Track # listed and I could be wrong on the highlighting "LEVEL" thing but the option is there if you scroll around on your Audio Track window and look for your WINDOW key lighting up.

All the JJOSs come with Audio Tracks.... correct? I could never imagine owning a sampler without this sorta thing. Absolutely mandatory.

Can't one sample from Line Input while the sequencer plays? Once you have a sample, you can just trigger the dude on a drum track?

Directly Recording/Place Event does that automatically, and places the event to trigger the newly recorded sample at exactly the same place in the sequence as when record was pressed.

The settings for the audio track record mode might be different from the input mode...

ie...

input mode is set to listen to analog inputs. Monitoring is set on.

audio track record mode is set to digital in.

or audio track mode is set to analog in, but it is not monitoring (still records but you can't hear what your playing...)

Audio track record settings come into effect when you start actually recording and it overrides the input mode settings.. when you stop and playback as normal it returns to input mode settings.

This is how it works for os2xl ... i'd assume it mite be the same for 128xl.. Maybe check that.

FIGURED IT OUT! lol Thanks for all your responses people. This is my first time posting something in this forum. I'm very pleased. I found tracks 61-64 to be the audio input I was looking for. I just go to those tracks, select THRU on the input monitor in the main screen, then hit RECORD + PLAY... the beat plays, i record live.
