Yeah, you can, it's in there.

Make sure your WS is highlighted (so the ASR knows what sample it will be working with), if not you'll be editing samples that you didn't want to edit and end up mad as hell later, lol.

EDIT PITCH or EDIT LAYER or EDIT WS, one of those will put you in the right direction.

You know there are 8 layers per INST right?

Finally got mine. This is actually really genious maschine, i **** love it. At first i thought it would take a hella long to make it work, but reading manual and this topic helped a lot. And even though this isnt akais product which im familiar with, in the end its still mostly same.

ASR10 was years ahead of it's time. I've said that forever and that fact stands.

You can sample while playing back. I used to rhyme into it while playing a beat. Ramtracks.

Low end theory is a DREAM to accomplish on asr10.

Get to know transwaves, they do WONDERFUL THINGZ!

What kind of tricks or methods people have found with ASR? And I don't mean obvious stuff from the manual.

I recently got an ASR10 keyboard and I like it a lot. Only problem I'm having is when booting up:

The first time I boot up it won't start up. Just a blank display and all the lights are on. After maybe 5 or 10 minutes when I restart everything is fine. Seems like it needs to warm up first before booting correctly.

Anyone who knows what I can do about this? I read somewhere that maybe a capacitor should be replaced?

Yah ensoniq s can b a temperamental lot, don't know how long u ve had it but b4 u go out and try to get it repaired or w/e try just using it for awhile it may warm up to. My eps does that occasionally, there's a lot of stuff that can potentially b wrong with it, ie ribbon cable oxidized and other things. I ve heard of people who ve had pblms with em for the first few months and then it just starts to like u. Ok I'm humanizing a bit. Anyways I'm the type of guy that doesn't like to open stuff up unless absolutely necessary.

Sounds exactly like the issue some EMU Ultras have. It's because of their PSU, or, more specifically, a thermistor there. The thermistor can be swapped or the PSU replaced.
Sometimes they won't boot, but if you leave it on for maybe 10 mins, it'll boot. Heard warming it up helps an old thermistor. Personally I dunno anything about electronics…that's something a dude that knows a lot about electronics and EMUs told me.

I dunno about ASR-specific parts, though.

Yeah it always works after about 5 minutes leaving it powered on. So it's not a real big problem.

From network54.com I read this:

this is a diagnostic mode

this tells you that there is a communication error

between the screen board the digital board and the keyboard or kpc emulator on racks

it means you have lost a communication link

now if all leds stay on and the screen is blank then you are in this diagnostic mode

you have to press a key sequence that puts out numbers on the screen if the numbers just stay to the left but change means there a problem with the 20 pin connector from the digital board and the keyboard

if the numbers track the screen as they go along until a key press is home curser and starts again from the beginning then you press some more once all the key routine has been pressed

you switch of and then you switch back on again it will then be out of the diagnostic routine ad you should get the boot screen

if not then its a bad communication error and needs to be looked into

The numbers go up from right to left when pressing, so thats a good thing. Just dont know where the communication error is and what to do about it.

You take your chances with old gear; essentially you are gambling, hoping to win. But, the build-quality and ruggedness of the ASR10 is right up there with the likes of the MPC3000 and S950. If it still works after 20 years, that's a blessing from the hardware sampler gods.
