Clint so the emu e4xt is a pretty recent acquisition, how r u liking it, I ask bcuz I'm nu to the e series as well, to emu samplers in general, oh yah and I'm bored.

At the moment, not much.

The internal SCSI HD sounds like an aeroplane taking off.

So before I use it seriously I need to upgrade to IDE HD and .WAV compatibility.

Plan is to upgrade it in several ways, play with it for a bit, and sell it on.

Yes, but sometimes you have to buy gear, just to try it out or to end up with the upgrades you need from multiple machines. I've had two TR-808's, but I absolutely hated programming that machine (although the sound was glorious amped up). Sold them both without looking back. Conversely, I've had to cut my losses on certain deals. The aim is to make sure my wins, more than cover any losses over the course of a year. I haven't had a loss for a few years now. Buying gear is a risky business, I suppose I get some sort of pleasure it.

And it is tax-free income after all...

Hmm, trying to remember the samplers I had.

Boss SP202 - phrase sampler, to little and not a lot possible - sold
Akai S2000 - really nice sampler, rack sampler just isn't very ergonomic - still got it
Akai S3000xl - not sure why, like the s2k better - sold
Akai S900 - sampler overkill - sold
Akai S01 - again sampler overkill - sold
NI Machine 1.0 - liked it, but wanted hardware only. - swaped it for a mpc1000
MPC1000 JJOS2xl - fast workflow, sound not so great, missed the numeric buttons - sold
E-mu E5000 - too complicated (used to akai way) and wasn't very impressed by "the fantastic z-plane filters" - sold it
MPC2000xl - nice, it is what it is - sold it
MPC2500 JJOS2xl - nice workflow, same as 1k, better/bigger feel, sound not so great - still got it
ASR-10 bought it recently, still learning, very nice machine, I like the sound and the options, but also that its a all in one machine - still got it

It's funny that out of all these samplers I like the cheapest ones the most. S2000 and ASR10.

bought a 2kxl. didnt put enough time in it the first few days, left it untouched. sold it; got a maschine. started working with it alright but it made me regret not putting the work into the mpc. stopped using it after a while and I sold it, and got a mpc2000 classic instead, figured it out real fast this time around and I love love love it. / :hmmm:

That was over 5 years ago .

Went back to the 2KXL after that 3K & 202 combo .

Then NI dropped Maschine version 1.5 w/ the MPC 60 & SP-1200 emulation and I bought one about 3 or 4 years ago and I haven't used anything else since . I am perfectly content and it's been a long time since I've been able to say that .

New album dropping next month made exclusively on Maschine (shameless plug  ) .

electra ep-501 -- weird ancient 8-bit digital delay/sampler with cv/gate control, fun to arpeggiate with the mono/poly on the days it wants to work
boss sp-202 -- more of an effects unit than a sampler i felt, especially without any memory cards. dont miss it.
roland s10 -- lol quickdisks. still, its nice to have a midi keyboard and it was rolands first sampler so that counts for, not that much, really
roland sp-404sx -- holy shit this thing eats the 202 for breakfast. lots of fun. sdhc compatibility for recording hours of nonsense at a time.
akai mpc2000xl -- the grey whale. i have updated to os 1.2, put a cold boot sd drive and the 1gb roland card that came in the 404sx inside and started sampling, and replaced the tact switches, only to have the top row of pads go out on me. still in pieces in the closet, gonna go ahead and replace the wheel encoder while im getting new bits, and a new sensor sheet. and i hope the connector to the pad sensor will work o k.
akai s612 -- mmm knobs, buttons, sliders. i make more noise than beats and wow this thing is amazing at cranking out some crazy sounds really quick
akai md280 -- lol quickdisks

man i really wanna get the 2kxl working. i think ill be able to actually make music other people would want to listen to then!

Without classics like an ASR10, MPC60, MPC3000 or SP1200 this is not possible.

Maybe when you reach the premier league of samplers, come back...

Nice history though, some interesting pieces which may well be sleepers...
