I was a Serato user for years but at some point I was trying to do things that it was not capable of.
Switched to Traktor and have been there ever since even though Serato has made some dramatic moves.

You're getting paid to play out so just buy the tools that do what you need and call it a day.

Seems like you should be using a smaller MPC that has the input thru with a more portable foot print.
Add the right JJ OS and you can get a lot of 4k-ish features.
If not go with the mixer and carry more gear, as if the 4k isn't big enough.

By now that should be MPC101 just like not connecting a Roland MV to a computer with Windows Media open.

Do it right from the start. I would have thought some of you would have learned from your mistakes. Set your sequence up and build off that.

Bruv, you're missing the point. This isn't an issue of my proficiency setting up sessions in the 4000. Even if I set up programs/sequences up perfectly so when converting from a song to a long sequence everything played exactly as it should I still wouldn't be to manipulate anything thereafter.

I'm looking for the MPC 4000 to be a versatile live performance tool and change elements of the song while other audio is coming through. Clearly we've established that this just isn't possible with the 4000 'in the box'.

If I wanted to do it your way and basically just play to a backing track I might as well just burn the long sequence to disk, throw a Discman in my backpack and be done with it.

Also, I'm not being paid to play gigs at the moment, I'm asking a question. I've had the 1000 in the past and used the audio through, it was cool. I don't own it anymore. I now have a load of sessions where the format is not compatible with newer, more compact MPC's which allow for audio through. I don't want to sell my 4000 and remake all these sessions on another machine.

There isn't another way to get audio through besides the record screen, my question's been answered, case closed. I'll think of alternatives or go with that limited approach.
