Trying hard not to break something. Yesterday the hardrive of my newly aquired second hand 4K sputtered out. All of a sudden while deleting some files from the save screen it started clicking and whirring painfully. Froze a little- then it said "no disk". Everything I've done so far on the 4000 is gone. But I gotta move on. So I bought a new hard drive open up 4000 and I see a tiny little hole in the flat hard drive cable. One of those wires just had a pinhole size missing section out of it. How could that happen? No idea. Is that the cause of everything thats wrong? Well it can't be a good thing. So I want to relpace the cable but the one that came with my new hardrive is really long and dissproportionate to the inside of the MPC. The slave and master connections are way too close together. Where can I find one that will fit? The guy I bought it from swears the other cable and hard drive weren't that old.
Searching through these forums has been helpful but it seems these things happen a lot. Everyone talking about bugs and how you gotta walk on eggshells. I feel dumb I hadn't backed everything up but come on now- I want to be able to trust this thing, rely on it to come through. How am I supposed let it flow otherwise? I have been making music on my grandpa's MPC 60 for many many years now (hate to give up that flavor). Banged out in some pretty ghetto studios that were not at all smoke free. Hauled it out for many live shows. Had it installed for a while in the dash board of my low-low. The play start button is loose and sticks, the volume knob is jacked, and I can barely see the screen but I swear, it works perfectly to this day. It has never froze and the only thing it has ever done to frustrate me is tell me some sample disks were corrupted. Now what? Am I gonna always be freaked out, as if I might lose everything at anytime. Is that what I have been looking forward to? I was expecting to be riding on a cloud with this 4000. Are there really that many problems or is that just the nature of a place like this, a place for people to get support?
