To be clear your not trying to have samples in the ren effected but the sp404.. You already have samples in the sp404 and want the ren to sequence the sp404?
If you use the word "sync" it means the sp404 also has a sequence, and when you start the ren, you want the sp404 to play it's own sequence/patterns along side the ren in sync..

I'm assuming you just want to trigger the sp404 samples via ren sequencer...

in preferences under the midi tab, make sure the midi out ports your using matches the settings... like this

when you plug in your sp make sure it's in out put port a...
also assuming that your sp audio out is plugged into the audio in off the ren.

make sure the track your using is set to midi and that it is using midi out port a...

Using the SP 404 for it's 29 Fx's with the MPC Renaissance.

If you would like to just by pass midi syncing the SP404 to the MPC Ren. You can use the SP 404sx for it's Fx's working with you MPC Ren. It just depends on your preference to where you want the SP404 within the signal chain.

Pic one displays where to connect the audio device signal into the SP404sx. (which is the Line In ports)

Here are couple of signal chain examples for sampling the audio source from a turntable.

Turntable>DJ Mixer>SP404 apply Fx to samples> sample sounds with applied fx into the MPC Ren.

Turntable>DJ Mixer>MPCRen> SP404 apply fx's to the beat >DAW

The pic below can help decide where to add your SP 404 into your signal chain to apply fx's.

*If you don't own a turntable just replace the turntable and dj mixer with the audio device that you have.

For example:
Turntable>Dj mixer iPod>SP 404> MPC Ren
turntable> DJ Mixer CD player>MPC Ren>SP 404
