If you do go with the FireworX, you probably should put it on a mains switch, if the rear panel switch is not accessible when you rack it, and turn it off at the mains or rear panel when not in use, as the internal power supplies do fail. Same power supply as the M2000, and probably other TC single rack units of similar vintage.

its still for sale new but would probably get a 2nd hand one.
Hmm well i am gonna get a power conditioner or two for my racks eventually but on power adaptor strip now. I will take that on board thanks.

yeah no thanks SOS are usually alright and actually have that issue with the biscuit in it. I reckon a few pedals would give it run for its money.
Filter - easy, a pedal, or even wah wah
bit reducer - meh distortion works lol
midi even, wow hold me back.
delay - another pedal
wave shaper - ? like transient designer?
pitch shifter - probaly sounds like arse and aliased to shit, another pedal though
8 bit synth - chip tunes are so 2003, and can get a nintendo game boy to do this.

So when are you blowing £2000 on your rack unit? I'm not a fan of all that glossy overblown reverb that I heard on the Eventide one. Seems perfect for middle-aged guitarists if that's your bag.

You could probably get better results with freeware plugins in reality.

Just chiming in about the OTO:
The videos that I've seen/heard are showing off the "effect" cranked up to an 11. The lil' dude is actually really nice in the subtle areas - which is where I prefer the OTO. The synth is a pretty nice feature on top of the effect(s). A friend of mine uses his all the time as food for his OctaTrack, pretty snazzy at the end of the day.

Outside of that, I can agree with the price being a little steep. I think that is to-be-expected most of the time when dealing with niche companies/products in general.

I realise you guys are trying to out-troll each other, but they are some of the best studio effects units, as well as being good for guitars.

And I would guess that you can get better sounds out of freeware plugins, compared to the OTO as well, probably even more likely.

SimonInAustralia is right, its one of hte best machines for FX in the world, that and the Fireworx... And its really $2500Au new, but I have spent that amount of cash before and is worth it if you get ten years use out of it. The H8000FW is way too much for me, but I want it eventually and is more upgrade after Eclipse v4.

And Coz you missed the bit where I tell ya its being marketed that way lately to sell more units. Its a mainstay in a lot of electronic music and not just for middle aged guitarists. It is for middle aged tekno heads to. Hmm glossy overblown reverb.... you sure you heard it? More like some of the nicest reverbs I have ever heard, and the pitch shift verbs are to die for. Go listen to some decent old tekno/trance and you will be hearing this unit. I saw a post by eat static, and I am sure he has one in his live rig, though not sure if it is the eclipse v4, more like the cheaper M units that are just verbs not all the FX. I want the orville but that one is waaaay tooooo expensive. Same one that Squarepusher uses. So you have heard them and you do like the sound, you just do not know your hearing it.

Medearis - You just named my pedal board, it will be the Hard Tack for sure. And you make a good point how the cost is related to amount made, and that is a fair point to consider. But saying this, it holds to that if they can ship enough units it will be cheaper eventually.

Issues with piug ins is that I need to use a computer and that is not really a great thing for me that uses all hardware. I would have to phase align the returns from the plug in cos of the delay in processing and this is not good and makes hardware units better.

I really think I could make an otto. Just make shitty DAC/ADC add some pots and a filter.... making the synth is harder bit but. But it wont be analogue, its a dinky chip making the synth sounds innit. so its a one trick pony for distortion and bit reduction with a filter and crappy pitch shift. But like I said I would use one but maybe for $300 at most for it. But really its like comparing a bicycle to a car. THey can both get you somewhere but the car is way more useful.

I was joking about the freeware plugins but I'm glad you bit.

I still think hardware sounds best in practically every department over software, but the gap is narrowing. In terms of reverb, I've been using convolution stuff for so long now that I find algorithmic reverbs a bit nauseating. I can't find one that I actually like the sound of for more than 5 minutes.

I practically grew up in Techno clubs and I've seen Eat Static countless times, so yeah, I've no doubt heard Eventide effects for years. I could vibe off the H9 because I like tiny little magic boxes (like the Biscuit ) but my rack stuff ends up gathering dust.

I bought a DP4 and I will show you guys some sound checks when I've used it, seems like a few people would wanna hear how it sounds. looking forward to mess with it!
