Setup a MIDI track in Pro Tools, with the input of the MIDI track being the USB MIDI keyboard, and the output of the MIDI track being the USB-MIDI interface cable MIDI output port that is connected to an MPC MIDI input.

That should take MIDI from the keyboard, and route it through Pro Tools, into the MPC, where it should play the software instrument in the same way that the MPC pads are. You probably have to record enable that MIDI track within Pro Tools, so that the MIDI passes through it.

Finally I succeded!
it was a matter of configuring PT, I will post later on the set up with some screenshots.

but in a nutshell, I can now play different virtual instruments with my keyboard, play the drums with mpc and sequence with mpc.

another question, when I hit record / main out (I want to have a wav file), I only get the drums track from the mpc. why is that?

Because it is recording the main audio output of the internal MPC sample engine, and not the output of the software instruments inside Pro Tools.

Bcuz u don't have any other audio outputting from the mpc, im assuming from the set up we discussed. The audio outs from the vst s are in the daw only.u would have to sample the vsts into the mpc to have the audio be sent from the mpc.The only data being received by ure daw is midi which is only telling the daw which keys were pressed, for how long they pressed , at what velocity they were pressed etc... if I understand ure question properly.

hmm indeed, makes perfect sense.
is there a way to do both?

is it a common thing? that seems to be a lot of work, isnt it?

the quick and dirty way would be to have audio outputting from cpu to mpc right?

Try it.

Plug the outputs of the Pro Tools/MBox into the inputs of the MPC, turn on the Input Thru function on the MPC, in Mixer Mode/F5, see if those inputs are recorded in the MPC when you record the main outs internally.

im bumping this thread since my pc died and had to redo the set up again and im stuck...

this is the same set up as before but with a new pc:
windows 7
mpc 1000
keyboard keystudio connected via usb
emu creatives 1x1 midi usb
pro tools 8 le

I want to play the software instruments from PT using my keyboards and record in my mpc.
so far i can only play the instruments with the mpc pads, I can record them and it plays but the keyboards sends no data (I can play instruments with the keyboards but it does not send anything to the mpc)

this is the set up in PT
Image

mpc has e-mu cable connected to the pc and I only see the white light, I was expecting a blue one as well but no success so far.

guys have any clue?
