Anyone Help : What soundcard ?

hello all, this is my first post on the studio forum, i have tried search but no real joy. My situ is Iv'e had my 1k bout 3 months and im getting PC in New Year (When the prices go down even more hopefully!) I was really after some advise in choosing a decent soundcard for no more than say £100/$200. I'm still learning things and will be running Adobe Audition (once i get my head round it!)
Sorry if asking basic stuff but where i live there are not too many heads to go to too for advise. Whats the score with 4/8 inputs to soundcard, will I really need etc.
Your help will be much appreciated

echo mia midi is pretty good....dirt cheap these days with two lots of ins and a non-joystick midi connector...cool stuff

The more inputs you've got, the more separate channels of audio you can record at once, for easier mixing/processing (separating the kicks from the hi-hats might be a good idea, for example), without having to record different parts in lots of different takes.

Do you use a desktop computer or a laptop? There are loads of PCI-based cards that offer a pretty decent bang for the buck. The E-mu range have gotten a fair bit of praise in the trade rags, for example.

Eventually, whatever you choose, you will most likely want to upgrade to a card with more input/output options anyway.

Thanks again fellas, I checked the Echo but priced round £170 in UK $300. A bit more than what i really wanted to pay. My mixer has 7 channels its a Behringer DX1000 dj mixer as i needed x-fader for my dj'ing, havent got it yet though its wrapped up for xmas, girly not letting me at it till then! so 2 channels for turntables one from the out of my mpc leaves 4, which i guess i can use the 4 assignable outs of my mpc. Like i said before still a newb and gratefull for any advise.

People have been raving about them and they are both really cheap. Make sure you check the forums, because there are some problems with some computer configs

Thanks again folks, I seem to have been looking at some rip off merchant as def was £165, some online store. Looks good through Ebay though theres 1 for £85 in UK. Will take a look at emu's also. Definitely some food for thought.

Hey sumedho top shout, loving the idea of an Emu forum, might just tip the scales in my choice as these forums are proving invaluable. Thats unless the Echo or any other card is gonna prove the better choice? Dont look to be much in it though?

Ah nice one dub, yeah im uk based but livin in Cornwall, from Leeds originally where you could get support, down earr its all tractors & pasties!!
Anyway nice shout again, I spose I can come hear for help if i hit problems. would you say the Echo over the Emu then

ah sunny cornwall yeah tis a bit farmer down there- still nice area...

not nessecarily the midi mia is the entry level echo soundcard but it has more options than the soundblaster which would have been my other alternative- i'd say the emu's are probably better but im happy with mine- you can do some internal routing with it to maximise what goes in and out...and its 24bit...great stuff!
