Gear vs Habit.

A mistake people make is they buy something new but want to use it like an existing piece.
In this case you are better off just sticking with whatever you were using.
You prevent yourself from seeing any real advantage of the new piece by trying to force or expecting it to work in a lesser capacity.

You can end up spinning the wheels and clicking more buttons because you are doing things in a roundabout way based on what you expect not necessarily the actual path of the function.

Couple of things
The Ren layout and buttons gives it a better workflow.
If you gave up on the 4k because the curve from the 2k, you are again in that same type of position.
The MPC software can a good place to consolidate aspects once you get the proper perspective.

It all comes down to maybe it's not for you.

I would have thought that with all the doors VSTs and the sample parameters opened basslines would be your easiest point?

The MPC Studio is a work flow killer compared to my 4000. The key commands and buttons seem too cramped. Can't even type in my tempo. I've made bangers on the MPC software. I think it's a good concept(despite the absence of a BPM detector) , but my 4k blows it out the water. My Logic Pro EXS 24 sampler blows it out the water. Looking at the 1.7 release notes Logic Pro has all those features including the "explode track" feature and much more.

That being said. I like the progress being made on the MPC Software and will probably continue to support it. I'm just going to have a cop a Ren though. The little cramped up MPC studio and it's flat surface just isn't cutting it. It feels like I'm making beats on a clip board when using the Studio.

whats it like chopping samples using the q links for zoom start and end point ect?

It's pretty dope. You have four Qlinks dedicated to adjusting the start or end points. The higher qlink covers the most ground of the waveform x1000, then decends by x100, x10, and x1 for more precise chopping.You also have a Qlink dedicated to zoom in on the chop or slice. The only drawback is that you need to use the top qlink to scroll through each column of qlinks.: Whereas with the Ren you have all 16 QLinks on the hardware.
