Your Sampler History

Amiga 500 with technosound Turbo --> first steps, my bro bought it between 80s and 90s
Akai s 2k with Atari + cubase --together with recycle ( i think that was in 2000)
Akai s 5k with Atari +cubase (Most underrated in my opinion, a lot of features, nice effect board/ filters)
Akai mpc 3k classic (Till today here and there together with the s5k)
Akai s 3k (was cheap and clean, spare parts..)
Akai mpc 1k ( for travelling -- i dont like the sound, will sell it)
Akai mpc renaissance (Gets a lot of use beside the 3 k)

I had also a time when i used a Kontakt cubase combination
and sometimes i play around with the sampler of roland fantom g.

Hands on at homiestudios:
akai mpc 60I (beast)
Ensoniq asr 10 (Super nice sound, effects)
Roland VP 9000 (realtime timestretch, pitchshift i think the only Hardware-sampler till today with that feature)

Nothing crazy... I've owned about 5-6 2000 and 5-6 2000XL's for the sole purpose of flipping them but i don't think that really counts. EDIT: as well as a sp12 and a 2500

would like to get my hands on a 3000 or an asr-10.

I plan to check out some 'classic' roland samplers, they barely get a mention. Its easy to get trapped in the akai/emu mindset. I picked up three rolands this week, will need some time to get to grips with them and decide whether to keep any.

yeah i was considering a w-30 for a long time. Let us know what you dig about them bro

I picked up the 12-bit S550, S330 and 16-bit DJ70 MkII. I have the RC100 remote control, mouse and VGA monitor. Should be interesting to experiment with. Still getting my head around the OS, don't hold your breath!

Im really curious about the vp 9000 the variphrase one, would b a great compliment to other samplers. Some of the real time timestretch stuff u can do with it is crazy.

Also check the VariOS and V-Synth, which are further developments of the VariPhrase tech.

^yah I saw that as well, do u know of anything else that implements the varios tech it seems like roland just dropped it. It must have been low demand unfortunate cuz the tech itself seemed really interesting and different.

It was still being used in 2007, in the V-Synth GT, not sure if it has been used, or at least labelled as being used, in anything since then.

It is quite possible that the VariPhrase tech is used in newer Roland synths, just renamed and/or further developed, possibly as SuperNatural and ACB, for example, but that is just a guess.

Threre were quite a few other products that used VariPhrase to some extent, but probably not as fully as the VP-9000/VariOS/V-Synth, such as the SP-808EX/VA-7/VA-76/etc.

It was also incorporated into Cakewalk Sonar X1 and X2, as the V-Vocal plugin, after Roland bought Cakewalk, but seems to have been changed to Melodyne in Sonar X3, I assume because Roland sold Cakewalk to Gibson.

Other Roland boxes that might have some usage of VariPhrase tech could be the MC808, MC909, MV8800, and probably others.
