Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

Masada, that was wonderful. :)

Btw, I found this by Jah Rome, showing how MPC software midi notes are being recorded directly in Pro Tools. Does anyone of you know if this is possible in Logic X, with v1.7, and if so how can this then be accomplished?

Now you can just turn on midi controller mode and record the notes in that way you may have to transpose up to the key where you pads up using the banks as now the mpc is playing like a keyboard so the midi notes go straight into the mpc track on your daw of choice

you could use it to control any other plugin too this not new to 1.7 you can do this with 1.6

I always had Midi Machine Control controlling the DAW, even before the Midi Controller Software add was out, but I never could get the midi notes from the Ren software into the DAW like Logic X. Like you are explaining.

What are the settings exactly, what did I perhaps overlook?

On their the site they still speak of exporting, not of direct plugging.

While on the Pro Tools page they do explain the midi note event from Akai software to the DAW, i.e. Pro Tools.

AyePee is talking about MIDI Controller Mode in MPC Software, from the MIDI Controller Mode tab.

That is using the MPC Renaissance/Studio as a MIDI controller, it is not sending MIDI from the MPC sequencer into the DAW, but directly from the pads/knobs.

Yeah, but my question is, if there is a way to send midi notes into the DAW like Logic X. The way Jah Rome is showing in his tutorial with Pro-Tools. That is what I am talking about. Do you know how to do that?

"turn on midi controller mode and record the notes "

At this point, if I tap the pads midi data appears in the DAW, but without sounds, or actual playback. Nor does it transport the data in the Akai software directly to the DAW.

Try this

Load up the standalone and go into controller mode and just see if logic is getting midi a midi signal if it is then your cool just use the banks and transpose up to your samples its usually around bank D

If its not getting a signal maybe you need to turn on a new midi device in logic's preferences

He is not sending MIDI notes into Pro-Tools in that video.

He is sending the audio output of the MPC Software plugin, into Pro Tools audio tracks, as audio, not as MIDI.

I think you need to work out exactly what you want to do.

I ok, I did that. Had the standard Classic E piano loaded in Logic, and from the Ren it started at Pad B6, "Note 21" B-1.

And from Pad C6, I heard both, sound from the Classic E piano and the sound from the Ren.

And I did manage to put in midi notes in Logic, by the MIDI Controller software. But it only work in the live playback. Not yet in the prerecorded songs.

Yes, you're right he isn't sending midi notes to Pro Tools.

But what I'm looking for is a way to send midi notes directly, into to DAW. From a prerecorded section played on the Ren/ Studio.

I can't see a way to get MIDI from the MPC Software plugin into Logic 9.

You can map a MIDI output from the MPC Software plugin to an destination called 'DAW'.

In Pro Tools, you can utilise that MIDI output from the MPC Sofware plugin, but I can't see how to make it work within Logic 9.

It is quite possible that I am missing something, but it doesn't seem to work in the same way that you can with Pro Tools.

You can send the output of a MIDI track from MPC Software running in standalone mode, into Logic 9, using the Mac IAC MIDI driver.

As far as sending midi into logic pro X... Here is something I found odd... I used a standard midi controller to control the REN software, and ALL my midi played right into my daw. But when i used the Red hardware to do it.. It only recorded midi into the REN plugin and thats it. But since 1.7 has the new querty keyboard setup.. The midi controller option may work a little better than last time. I'm definitely going to try it.

That would be because the standard MIDI controller is sending MIDI into the computer itself, and all programs running on the computer can receive that incoming MIDI and respond to it, both MPC Software and Logic at the same time.

But the Renaissance is not sending MIDI into the computer like a standard MIDI controller, it is using specialised/dedicated MIDI communication with MPC Software, that doesn't appear within programs other than MPC Software.

Ok, so back to the expansion hack:

After I have an expansion XML created properly with samples. In your vid, the only thing there is Samples. So if I created and added Programs and KeyGroups to the content folders as shown, that content would be included in my expansion as well, correct? And they would be treated as such? (selectable and swappable)

If so, this is ASTOUNDING!!! (roll my own kits time and convert existing content)
