No one's really been talking about vintage mode since, like... 1.2

But I'm wondering whether or not it's a feature that's going to be improved upon in further updates, or if it's just dead. I know when someone discovered the plugins that we could use them as separate effects for different channels. So it became pretty much irrelevant to drench the entire thing in a vintage mode effect.

Be that as it may, I still think it's a neat feature that should be explored further. Maybe adding special settings per track or something, rather than just an effect on the master bus. Make it more of a feature, less of an effect.

I read on here a while back, people talking about using the vintage mode button for something else, but I don't know how I feel about that. I mean, if it's not going to be improved upon, then okay. I can live with that kind of change. But I would hope to see an improved "vintage mode" feature in future updates. Something a bit more in-depth, and maybe some other emulations. Not just sampler emulations, but other weird sound toy or speaker emulations.

I don't know though. I may be of the 1% of people who think this is actually worth messing with. Just a thought.

Vintage mode was a scam. Plug-in mode is the real name.

Well considering the fact that when the MPC Ren hit the market it cost more than a used MPC 3000 & 60 you would think if one really wanted that sound they would just cop one of those legacy machines instead of the Ren.

I like the MPC legacy and SP emulations it's nice and subtle as it should be.

I feel like if this feature was improved, and maybe redesigned, more people could catch onto it. Not necessarily as a "vintage" mode, but more a sound design tool to shape sounds in a unique way.

The 2000xl and asr10 would be nice additions they both have a distinctive sound

+1
I think because it's a software product people are looking for too much from it or not grasping the useful aspect.

I usually just keep the 60 button on with all my projects. And the ren does laps around the mpc 60 so that choice on what unit to purchase is a no brain'r.

If one has ever chopped on the 60 or 3000. It's worth seeing why it was advanced to what it is now.

People want it to do everything.

People want it to become the 'swiss army knife' of electronic music production.

Never satisfied.

Why not have a mode for every sampler ever made...cut to the chase.

You're missing the point. I'm not saying that I want it to sound like every other sampler there is. I was just suggesting that they flesh out the feature a little bit, making it more useable as a sound design tool or something. It's already there, so why not make it better?

sometimes i use the 3000, and occasionally the sp1200..

the 60 always puts too much bass and low end in for me

the sp1200 ring is just obviously horrible lol

the 3000 and 1200 r safe imo, but the 60 just sounds kind of bad and too heavy on the low end for me.

meh

One thing I like to do in SP Ring Mode is to play a sample all the way pitched down at -36 with ring mode on, record that, then pitch the sound back up to its original pitch, and turn off the ring mode for playback. It adds a fair amount of dirt to the sound, but it doesn't sound like a cheap bitcrusher effect anymore. It's a really great trick for drums.

It does take out a little bit of the natural low end, but you can fix that with EQ if desired. It's worth trying if you haven't.

I noticed the Vintage Mode hack, where you can you each one as an insert on a track doesn't work in 1.7. At least i can't get it to work? I had it working in 1.6.
