Can I use a Ren without looking at the computer screen?

its true 98% of stuff you can do from hardware now.. and even if you need to look up at your monitor (cause of poor resolution - to address what coz was saying) - at least you dont have to grab the moues, etc..

def feeling good from the hardware.. i dont even really know how to use it without the ren attached. like if i had to make a beat with the software only i would basically be re-learning it hahah

NI added those screens to the Studio because it goes along with exactly what they are trying to sell.

I still use my S4 mk1 because the things they added to the mk2 are more frilly than helpful but it's what NI is really big on; things that look kool.

Akai needs to continue to focus on getting the workflow right not bells and whistles.

Well yeah, that's what I'm also saying. They just haven't sold the reimagined MPC workflow too well either IMO.

I think the OP has got his answer anyway.

I like the screen. Not so many distractions, retro feel, and mostly you see only what you need. When making beats, I don't use any display most of the time. Guys should stick to using their ears rather than their eyes.

By the way, for example Madlib did pretty nifty things with a SP-303, which has a three digit seven-segment display... The Ren/Studio display is purely LUXURIOUS!
