How to use keyboard KEYS instead of pads

I can't figure out how to play the sounds of my keyboard ON MY KEYBOARD along with the mpc. I have my KB and mpc1000 synced just fine to where I can play my KB sounds on the pads, but I don't want to play the sounds on the pads, I want to play them from the keys on the keyboard. What settings would accomplish this? (I tried setting the keyboard as the master and the slave, but neither helped me so what am I doing wrong?).

No, MPC MIDI OUT to your keyboard MIDI IN is what lets you hear the KB sounds when you hit the pads. You want the signal of what you play on the KB to be sent to the MPC so you need a MIDI cable that goes from the KB MIDI OUT to the MPC MIDI IN. Having both plugged this way is called MIDI handshake. This way, the MPC can record all MIDI signal coming out from your KB and send it back when you playback.

If you want to play the sounds on your keyboard then set the track to a type 'MIDI'. Then set the MIDI channel to match the MIDI Channel of your synth patch. You can repeat this for multiple tracks with a different MIDI channel on each track controlling a different patch in your synth.

For samples, set the track to DRUM and assign the sample program to it.

To record a specific synth patch sequence, select the appropriate track and record.

My keyboard has "tracks" and I assume that these same tracks are also midi channels so when I select track 1 on the KB then I select 1A on the mpc, yes? My keyboard has an F6 button for "Midi" but when I press it it becomes a "midi filter" that has "rx", "pc", "bs", etc and their all checked( not sure if this has anything to do with it though). When I change the patch on the KB on a different track such as track 2 and then 2A on mpc, it changes the recorded sound on track 1 so that tells me somehow I am staying on 1 channel but not sure why the channels/tracks aren't changing. What step am I missing as far as selecting midi channels?

The tracks in your Fantom are inbuilt sequencer tracks, they are not what you need.

You need to setup the Fantom in Performance Mode, so that the Performance has the Patches within the performance, up to 16 difference Patches/Parts, assigned to different MIDI channels.

If you select the Performance you want to modify, then the F6-MIDI button, I think that you can assign a different MIDI channel (Ch) to each to the 16 Parts in the Performance.

You can also assign a different Part (sound) to each of the 16 Parts in the Performance.

It then plays each different Part, as it is assigned to each different MIDI channel, in response to MIDI messages coming in on those different MIDI channels from the MPC.

That channel setting on MPC is only for MIDI out, not for receiving. Better go to [mode 9] and what you got there in "active track receive channel"?
