Yes you can use it as an instrument, i guess you're happy to use it as a plugin inside your main DAW then..
But for those who are using the standalone mpc software they want everything there.
Even the name "Music Production Center" is the same idea as "Digital Audio Workstation".
It is actually close to be a pretty decent DAW already.

Has been that way since MPC 60. But that doesn't mean it's not an instrument. Roland Fantom fits the same description, and it's still in the "instrument" category. But it hasn't been a DAW... What I'm saying is that I prefer that the MPC stay closer to its roots, not keep moving toward DAW land. The chance of being able to do the same DAW functions as Logic, in any near future, is nil. They could make this the best MPC *instrument* ever, but if they keep moving it toward a DAW, it will just dilute the product with features and functions that DAWs have been able to for years. It just doesn't seem like a good spend of resources to me.Mistamixx wrote:Audio tracks.
That's exactly why i'm saying they have to push it in the next updates.

I think it would take a new foundation to go that way.
One thing that changes is the fact that if audio tracks are added, do they make the decision to have audio tracks stream from disk, instead of from ram.. Adding a play start sync issue so that midi events now sync with audio tracks streaming from disk.. BAsically they can't really build from the engine that is already there because now the core has changed...
I'm in agreement with the instrument idea, and making the mpc work to it's potential as a sampling sequencer, rather than a audio track, daw type arranger. I would rather more creative sound shaping tools built into the pgm editor and sample edit, than add in audio tracks..
I'd rather things like sidechain, or even better, the ability to create pgms that are macro pads, rather than samples... eg
pad a01 is a envelope amp generator that controls my drum pgms volume... I sequence with pad events when i want the drum pgm volume to "duck" with just midi notes... pad 02 mite be a a filter cutoff envelope .. This could be linked to your sample piano pgm... get the drift?
perhaps filter and amp per sample layer rather than just each pad...
