Creating .akp programs with a modern MAC?

Just sold my 2500 to a happy new MPC user. The idea is going to the 4k in order to take advantage of the ADAT functionality and higher sample rates among other workflow things...

was using the quite basic (and often frustrating) MPC Pad 187 software to create programs ... then dropping folders onto the memory card via a card reader...

QUESTION: is it possible and if so, how can I build custom 4k programs on a 2013 Mac w/ Mavericks and then get them into the 4k via flash media (CF, usb stick, USB transfer, whatever)...

I'm not looking to convert my 1000/2500 .pgms to .akp programs... fine rebuilding them at original sample rates... I don't have Battery or some of the other programs I hear can spit out an .akp file... I use Soundforge and Logic x personally...

I also do NOT want to run some parallel version of Lion/leopard to do this, and have no access to a PC or any 32bit machine capable of running ak.sys.

Any wisdom about my question or other techniques to make programs would make me feel a lot better about having sold my 25k!!!

Fricken AKAI man... it's really, really unfortunate how many times they've disappointed me.

I'll be retaining the services a several tweenage computer wizzes to create "4thousand Mac-sys" as some solid freeware for the disenfranchised...

Any basic 4k OS tips on say, connecting an external HD/thumbdrive/CF-card reader, select-all and save to internal HD, then grabbing groups of 16/32/96 .wavs so they get auto assigned to separate pads??

Quick question: will I need to reinstall the OS or anything vital if I fully reformat the internal drive? I feel like it would be good to do (then partition maybe)-- dude had a bunch of country guitar samples I dont need.

Picked up my 4000 yesterday after much bs'ing with the seller. Went through as much of it as I could and everything seems to be proper with the exception of some screwdriver marks on the back. Looks like someone got high before they installed the 8-analog card. Also the stock hard drive (and fan) is loud but the "no spin" is brilliant! Also Nintendo style animation on load menus??? Party!

Took it home and started having a blast. First thoughts are extremely easy to use, sound is much more present and 3D, and several MIDI + sequence/track options I once dreamed were possible on the 25k

If you're a Logic user, you could build programs using EXS24 and then convert them to 4000 compatible AKP programs using CDXtract:

I have ak.sys running on OSX using VMware fusion running an ancient version of Windows (XP I think...) and use that to create .akp programs which I then transfer to my S6000 over USB. Mainly use it for transferring samples though and then create the programs on the S6000.

Haven't done this with MPC4000 but I'm guessing the process would be the same. Only way I've managed to get ak.sys working on my iMac anyway.

I use a program called RS16x.

It does not make AKP files but it does make MPC 2000 compatible files.

This is true but you forfeit too much of the 4k power by going that route which is why people want to make AKPs.

you could easily save theprogram as an AKP keygroup or drum program once loaded into the 4000, then do as you wish with it.

there is no software that builds akp programs on the MAC platform.

thanks for everyone's help. Thus far I've simply been loading a batch of wavs and assigning one by one.

@ THE ADVERSARY : off hand, what major disadvantages would I face going the 2000 program route, workflow, processing wise?
