It can be permisson to write to the hdd.
Download batchmod and throw the installer there.
Check everything in the top options, and check the subfolders box next to the ok button.
Hit ok, put your password, and it's done.
Try installing again after that.

Windows OS are 900% more complicated. The only reason we all use windows OS originally is because, that is what we are first introduced to. Believe me, if you ever make the switch to OSX you will be saying "holy crap, why did I wait so long."

Sorry to hear.
I'm trying to set the steps I'd go thru for this kind of problem, if I have one, in my computer.
Did you install that driver? Is it the beta driver?
It is strange that a driver won't let you install the app, anyway I don't say it is not possible, but quite strange.
Run the mpc installer again and hit reinstall in the driver part.then restart, and see if this time you can install the app.
If you continue with the problem, I would delete all and start over.
For not losing content and registration.
-go to /Library/Application Support/ from your hdd root back up the MPC folder there. Then go to the /Library/Application Support/ from your user folder and backup the MPC folder too. To go to your user Library folder press Option key while you navigate thru the Go menu in Finder. You will see Library there.

Well, after trying repeatedly to troubleshoot and then reattempt, I'm still stuck. When I opened the stand alone the last time...(wait for it) A BUNCH OF MY ACTUAL PAID FOR VSTs FAILED (all Komplete 9 Ultimate VSTs, Sylenth1, Sound Toys, and Nexus2) !!!

I just redownloaded/reinstalled 1.6. I will try to install 1.7.1 from there and see how it works out. I will keep you updated.
