MPC Renaissance/MPC Software Plug-in with Logic Pro X?

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting on this website. As far as being a musician, I just play the keys and trumpet, so this is my first time working with the technological/recording side of music. So please forgive me if I don't understand too much about MIDI, input/ouput, etc. Also, the MPC Renaissance is my first MPC ever, so I am really new to all of this. Anyways let me get started with my question/issue:

Is it possible to record sounds from the MPC Renaissance Pads straight into Logic Pro X as MIDI notes? I primarily just want to use my MPC to easily sequence drums that I have purchased and utilize the note repeat feature. I have looked and studied all over Google and Youtube to find a solution but I have not found an answer. I have seen forums and videos on exporting as audio files and dragging those files back in, but in my opinion that just slows down my workflow. Just out of curiosity, does anyone else use Logic Pro X (or other versions of Logic Pro) as their DAW? If so, how do you incorporate the MPC Renaissance into your workflow?

Use MIDI control mode and off you go. Check the manual for that.

I've tried that already. I already have all my pads loaded up with kicks, snares, and hi-hats. The pads still don't send MIDI notes to Logic Pro X's piano roll. It's weird because when I was in MIDI Control Mode and I pressed record in Logic Pro X, I press the pads and they appear on the piano roll but still no sounds at all. Is there any possible way you can clarify that process for me?

Problem is: You can't sequence the MPC plug-in from Logic so far. To play sounds in MPC, you need to sequence them in the plug-in itself. MIDI Control mode is used to sequence everythin BUT the MPC plug-in.

I know, this is difficult to wrap your head around, but that's how it works.

Some consider this a flaw, some consider it normal.

But in essence, the MPC plugin doesn't behave like a traditional VSTi, which is a big gripe for several people on these boards. IMO the plugin is sub-par in its current form.

What you're trying to do doesn't work, and it's unfortunate that it doesn't work that way. We've been lobbying for this capability for a while. Hopefully we'll see it in the next version.

This helped me tremendously and allowed me to see outside my traditional box. Maybe you can incorporate into your workflow since you are still new to the game, so to speak.

Here is how I use my MPC Renaissance & Logic Pro X

(This is the same way the MPC Renaissance functions in Pro Tools, Kinda.)

First load up the MPC Renn VST (x16out) >

(Please note: You will need to "map" your Transport controls within the Logic key command preferences to truly sync the MPC with Logic. This will allow you to switch from DAW mode to plug-in mode. There are a few good videos on youtube that will help elaborate, but it's really easy.)

Goto your Logic mixer and expand the MPC'c 16ch's with the (+) just below the track LED >

Route the stereo tracks out of the MPC mixer OUT 1,2 OUT 3,4 etc....... >

Back in Logic you will see that the expanded MPC track inputs will correspond with the outputs you just routed from the VST >

Now you have to route all the Expanded MPC tracks within Logic's mixer to BUS 1 - 8 etc. (These will all be stereo by default FYI)

Last simply make sure all the BUS'd tracks have their respective outputs routed to stereo AUDIO tracks 1 - 8 etc. (Rec Enabled)

Now you can dump your tracks live into Logic as you normally would with any prior MPC model.

Save the Session as a template B4 you begin to record so you can pull it up any time and Bust.

(This is also the method if you have already made a beat and you just want to track it out. Same as you would with any prior MPC "Analog" style with live track mutes etc. Just remember to enter the tempo of the beat in Logic so it syncs properly with your renaissance before you begin to record.)
