DJing Element Question

Hey all. (hope this is the right section for this question)

I just want to know, how important is having the foundation of djing when it comes to creating your music?

I personally feel I'm missing that important key since I don't know how to do it.. And all the great beat kings are dj's as well.. So is it necessary to have that knowledge?

It's all part of the grand scheme of things. In early hip-hop, the time BEFORE samplers, do you notice something that was intricate to a hip-hop group at the time...? The DJ! It all started with looping and back spinning breaks between 2 of the same record to "create" rough instrumentals.

I'm not saying you need to become a DJ, or a piano virtuoso the make great music. (Some famous producers have zero formal training) But, it will damn sure help to understand how the process of DJ'ing WORKS. Just like having formal theory training... it just helps.

Yeah Id say its not essential but if you've got budget to splash out on some turntables it will def help your ear for loops, mixes, cuts and give you a better insight into the origins of hip hop...1st hand experience and all that

I don't have the budget now but it's something I'll definitely invest in for the future
