Mashine MKll (newly purchased) misery.

Some of you may already know that I recently bought my first MPC (Studio) and, today, I was blessed to be able to purchase one of the Mashine units, also. I got the MKll, and couldn't WAIT to get home with it, so that I could (so I THOUGHT) begin having fun with it. It turned out, though, that this was not to be the case.

For HOURS I have been wrestling with what's going on. Whether the Mashine functions properly, or not, is something that I am able to determine at this time. That's because I can get it to do nothing but power on. I can't navigate anywhere on it because of not being able to move from the initial screen.

No manual, or software was present within the packaging. All that was in the box was the MKll, USB cable, pack of silica gel and a sheet of press-on labels. That was IT. I have been at NI's site, for the longest, as I had read somewhere that the software, and all else needed, would be there for downloading. But I could find absolutely nothing that I was looking for. Oh, I did get the driver for my unit, but nothing else.

Can anyone tell me if the software disk was supposed to accompany my hardware? As bad as I wanted this thing, I am SO tempted to take it back, tomorrow. I am hoping, though, that someone might have some real good news (direction) for me.

my mikro mk1 came with a software disc, I'm not sure about mk2… download something called service center from the NI site and go into there, or maybe try and register your product at the ni site and try and get some software, did u buy ur shit new??

First off, thanks for responding.

Yes, I HAVE registered my unit at the NI site, as well as having downloaded their Service Center onto my desktop. I received notification that I my registration was, indeed, recognized/accepted, and I thought that I was good to go. However, there was no software to download, nor any info on how to go about getting v2.0 of the firmware. Never before have I had to experience anything like this. It's a bit disheartening, to say the least.

Every new Maschine comes with an installation disc. They may not be included in 2nd hand purchases, obviously.

However, you can download the software from your user area on the Native Instruments website.

The upgrade to Maschine 2.0 isn´t free. You have to purchase it. It´s worth it, IMHO. You get A LOT with it...

Of that, I am also keenly aware. However, my unit was purchased from Guitar Center; new, and in a factory sealed box. I guess that NI's quality control screwed up. At any rate, I was given an exchange, and I made certain that the software was in the box before I left the store.

How come you've bought both? As you've said in previous posts you're a beginner with MPCs so I'm going to assume you are with Machine too (?). As they have two totally different approaches to making music I think it's be a lot easier to try and learn one at a time.

Lots of NI stuff now simply comes with the hardware and just a card that has a s/n and a download link.

You go to the link register the hardware and it then gives you a link to download your software and the service center as well as putting it in your NI account.

They have been doing that for quite a while.

Yes, you make sense. I do understand that they are two different animals, but I am one to really immerse himself deeply in that which interests me. My brother and I often collaborate, and he will wind up getting one of the units from me. Instead of two MPC's I figured that having these two different units would give us the best of both worlds. Besides, I do have to be honest and admit that I have a bit of gadget freakishness about me .

Well, I am sitting here, now, with my newly exchanged unit, and a wee bit baffled. As mentioned earlier, this one DID come with an installation disk - with just two steps to follow. However, I cannot proceed past the first step due to inability at obtaining what was supposed to be residing at that site. I am advised to complete step one BEFORE inserting the included DVD, but the given link (www.native-instruments.com/setup-mashine2) only produces a 'Page Not Found' notice.

But, maybe it is as you've said: maybe it is now a matter of registration/installation of hardware/software, which may unlock where I need to be to get what I need to get.

I guess that I'll see.

Simon, I didn't see this, from you, until just now. But I had, a short while back, found this very information page, and downloaded/installed what I needed. I don't know why such direction wasn't given in the package, but I am well on my way to getting set up right. I've just downloaded the necessary PDF guides for my respective unit (MK2), and am about to install them on my iPad. I am going to become a studying freak so that I am arm myself with enough informational artillery to do some real musical damage .

I can't say enough about you folks, here, who step up to the plate to help others, and my appreciation is large.

NI started this quite a while back and the Traktor products are the same way.

It was suppose to assure that you had the most current software and drivers but it's confusing based on what people are accustom to.
