I need some help on using and syncing the MPC Studio with Ableton Live. Lately I've been using the standalone by itself, but i would like to migrate over to Ableton. What settings do i have to change so that I can track out each of my individual tracks within the MPC Software to Ableton? I'd like to be able to record directly into Ableton based on whatever the MPC is playing in real-time if possible.

I was going to use ableton for mixdown but mpc software seems to hold its own pretty well. Once Akai includes audio tracks and improves the mixer workflow even more then its game over

Glad I came across this, I was going to ask why so many people decide to get a mpc studio/Ren then get an additional DAW when the MPC software does pretty much the same(from what I can see)

Whats so bad about the MPC software for everyone to want to use Ableton, cubase,FL etc?

i cant say exactly.

ive asked that question too.

mpc seems like it can doo a decent job at mixing.

i messed a bit with ableton and its prety crazy and hard to learn. but it does give you more control over the mix.

i mainly use ableton to record my vocals on it.. and try to mix/master the final track.

according to peeps here mpc isnt getting any voice tracks anytime soon ;(

daw's have audio tracks so you can play the beat and just record the vocals ;D

DAWs are better for a lot of things, the main thing is that they support VSTs better and allow for more sophisticated audio routing, which lets you do things like sidechain compression, unlimited buses for FX, unlimited FX support per track.

Also there is nothing 'wrong' with the mpc mixer, per se, but it's a little convoluted and doesn't have as good useability as most DAWS (a lot of little things, like ctrl clicking different tracks then applying pan/vol changes across all of them, colouring them differently, hiding them, disabling master send, easy and quick changes to send/receive volumes, drag n drop fx capability).

And when you bounce tracks down to audio you can achieve a lot of edits that are difficult/impossible on mpc software by directly clipping/copying/shifting waveform positions, using lfo generators on automation lanes, copy pasting automation, perform sophisticated crossfades, reverse the audio of sequences, plenty more.

most of that stuff doesn't belong in the mpc software, it would clutter it and make it less effective at quickly laying down tracks. for this reason i'll continue to use it paired up with a DAW, with audio routed from the mpc software into the DAW.
