iTunes is IMHO the most elegant music playback software, and it's free at www.apple.com/itunes .

The LAME codec is widely regarded as the best sounding MP3 codec, and it's available as a plug-in for iTunes, so you can have the best of both worlds (most elegant interface, best sounding codec). Do a search www.versiontracker.com for the latest version of the LAME plugin.

IMHO Get A Good Editor You Will Truly Need One In the Long Run.
Sound Forge /WaveLab / Cool Edit etc these all offer MP3 tools that are more than enough for any task.

As 4 MP3 / Wav conversion I use Simple MP3 the Thing is Fast ,Fast ,
Fast ..............Its Like one of those TV Roasters on Sale YOU Just Set IT And Forget IT.
