pads only work in edit mode

Hey guys I have a mpc 4000 for a while now like 8 years and ive replaced the pads before but this time they are not workng BUT they only dont respond in sequence mode, so when u push play u cannot record or step sequence . only way to actually trigger drums on the pads is by going to edit mode or slice or the filter section. has anyone experienced this? please help or suggest a solution before i just take it in to vst. thanks

Cant pull thiss off the top of my head but this seams like a simple conifg rather than hardware related ..

So cheek the midi routing/ config etc ..you can route pads to sampler only, it's all under system and MIDI if I rember correctly ... Good luck!

local off? havent turned the 4000 on in a bit

Save all your settings, then initiate a reset of the machine.

Try the other software related stuff first though, lol.

A bit late here, but may be worth checking before you ship it off...

So it works in program edit mode only?

If so, I think it's the monitoring mode. This should be an option on the top right of the program screen. By default it should be program, but it sounds like you have it set to multi.

If set to multi, the pads play the assigned program for the current track.

Either set it back to program or assign programs to the current track on the main screen.

Although I thought it reset to program on a restart, but I may be wrong.

you can try this to be sure about hardware:

Panel Test Mode
To enter the Panel Test Mode, press the GLOBAL key while holding down the SHIFT key in the GLOBAL page [F1] of the
GLOBAL Mode.
• Moving the Q-link knobs changes the graphics accordingly.
• Tapping the PAD shows the amount of pressure applied on the bar graph.
• Switching the FOOT Pedal on/off changes the graphics accordingly.
• Turning the JOG wheel increases/decreases the value in the Data field.
• Pressing the key shows its name at the bottom of the screen. For those keys with the LED, the LED is turned
on/off.
• Pressing the [F1] key stops the key test.
• After stopping the key test, pressing the mode key will abort the test mode.
• While the key test is stopped, pressing the SHIFT key and [F6] key shows the A/D converted value of the
Q-link/ PAD.

check if the name of a switch does not appear continuously (stuck switch)

lol old azz thread but thought id say how dumb i felt when i found out was a midi setting in the sampler/pad destination..

this is what i get for messing with ableton and neglecting my mpc a while.
