Patched Phrase v New Program

What is the difference between a patched phrase, and sliced samples? Sometimes I wanna mess with it, but if I got something ill going i dont want to f*** it up.

Why not just use both. Sliced Samples allow you to mess with the chopped samples. Patched Phrase allows the chopped sample to stretch along with the tempo, but I think it can only be assigned to one pad.

Yes Think of it as turning a sample into the MPC version of a REX file. Very useful for breakbeats.

yep. a cool technique for break beats is to turn it into a patched phrase, then assign it to a pad and resample it at the tempo you want and then re chop it up.

Nice. Ive been using it now that I know. It almost reminds me of the time stretch on the boss 505 sampler.

man pp sucks.
its only good for drums. and depending on the drum breaks you can only slow it down so much.

i prefer to use time stretch or tunning if i want to slow/speed something up

i am not sure but i think pp was ment to be used only with drums.

I hear you. I'll use anything for anything though. I havent had the ren that long so I'm just now after a few weeks only really getting into it's features. The patch phrase isn't terrible though. At least not in my opinion. I think you are right about it being used for drums though. It seems like that's the idea behind it. I chop drums up and have my custom kits. However, I prefer making my own drums on the E-MU MP-7. You can really hook nice drum sounds up on that machine.

+1 (I knew we get along for a reason)

My MP-7 burned a cap on it's mainboard last year. I need to get my saved songs out of it. Dope little box with an ASR X Pro workflow, just didn't sample. If it did, E-Mu would probably STILL be in business.

well you can make your own drum loops there then put on mpc and pp them if you want ;p
