Help needed. MPC 4000 fixer upper

im not sure anybody has ever done this. it wasnt a real suggestion. anyone with broken mpc parts basically does what i just suggested or they sell and buy again.

Oh. Do you rekon it's that **** then?
Maybe a repair guy could sort it. It would be nice to do it myself though.
Any real suggestions then? Anyone?

my apologies, it was a real yet hard to attain suggestion made by someone (myself) who has very limited knowledge of the finer intricacies involved other than listening to my friends who design electronics. my suggestion was made tongue in cheek as they say.

So is there anything else to suggest before I bite the bullet & send it for repair (Or just scrap it)??

yeah dont waste your money sending it to forat or whatever! buy another cheapo! it doesnt have to look good to have the part you need. theyre easy to get! take what you need and then you can part out the rest! dont buy mine, whatever but dont waste your money sending it somewhere, youll pay as much as a whole new one im certain.

so anyway, thats what i would do. or if you dont wanna deal with any hassle, and you wanna give profit to someone else, buy used parts from mpcstuff.com

Well, I had one more bash at it last night. Took all the bits out. Cleaned everything.
Put it all back again. Made double sure every wire was in properly.
New battery. Aaaaaaaaand, nothing still.
Except now my computer can see it again. It even let me change the OS. I tried all 3 versions from the Akai website but still nothing.
So now, I turn it on, the screen lights up, all the LED's stay lit.....and that's it

I'll post any further progress as it/if it happens.

If you're fiddling around inside the MPC I'd give cleaning the ribbon cable that connect to the screen a go. Just need a cotton bud and some rubbing alcohol. I've noted that if those delicate connectors get dirty or bent out of place you can have issues with the screen and possibly more.

Yeah, thanks man but I already tried that. I think the screen is probably fine as it has no problem telling me there is a Rom error.

I'd focus on the main pcb operations/functions board. I thinks it's the one that houses the cpu & ram. Replace that and you'll probably cure all your ills.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking but was trying to avoid as they seem quite rare.
Any one got one spare?

do you have some knowledge in electronic? do you have a digital multimeter?
if yes there's some points you can check like the power supply lines, the reset controller IC etc...

do you have a picture of the internal components? and the PSU board in big size.

a power supply failure could cause such a problem.
the reset control IC wont release the reset line and the system wont boot (led on + blank screen)
and trying to flash the rom with supply problem can cause same troubles.

from the service manual, the ROM seems to be a Fujitsu MBM29DL322TE-90TN

in 48 pin TSOP package. you're lucky it's not a BGA!

so now you say the leds stay on and the first thing to check is the power and reset.
